Associate Attorney – School Law
Role Description
We are seeking an associate attorney with 3 years of experience to join the School Law Team of our Local Government Practice in Chicago. The role focuses on education-related legal matters and requires strong legal judgment, writing, analysis, and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct impartial fact-finding reviews, including record review, witness interviews, legal analysis, and written findings.
Advise on investigative procedures and legal requirements.
Manage matters independently, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with clients, families, school personnel, and other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, admission in good standing, and at least three years of post-law-school legal experience.
Active Illinois bar license.
Strong knowledge of federal and state special education mandates, including IDEA and Section 504.
Excellent legal writing, research, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, work independently, and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Experience
Experience with school-based, special education, civil rights, compliance, or other fact-finding investigations.
Experience advising educational institutions or parents/families on special education matters and dispute-resolution processes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Exceptional writing, organizational, and advocacy skills
