Role Description
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for developing mechanical designs, preparing technical drawings, and creating detailed models for mechanical components, equipment, and systems. This role involves translating design concepts and engineering requirements into practical solutions that meet functional, dimensional, safety, and manufacturing specifications. The position supports product development, design optimization, technical documentation, and coordination with engineering and production teams to ensure accurate and efficient design implementation.
Design responsibilities include creating mechanical layouts, component drawings, assembly drawings, and three-dimensional models based on project specifications and technical requirements. The designer evaluates dimensions, tolerances, material properties, component interfaces, and assembly configurations to ensure that designs are suitable for their intended applications. Duties also include reviewing design concepts, refining geometries, updating drawings, and ensuring that technical documentation follows established drafting standards and organizational procedures.
Computer-aided design responsibilities involve using CAD software to develop detailed models, generate engineering drawings, and prepare visual representations of mechanical assemblies. The designer maintains accurate design files, organizes drawing revisions, and incorporates feedback from engineering teams and other relevant stakeholders. Additional tasks include preparing bills of materials, documenting component specifications, checking dimensional accuracy, and ensuring that drawings contain the information required for manufacturing, assembly, and inspection.
The role also supports design verification, prototype development, and continuous improvement activities. The designer assists with evaluating design feasibility, identifying potential manufacturing challenges, reviewing component fit and functionality, and proposing modifications to improve performance, reliability, or cost efficiency. Responsibilities may include coordinating with manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and quality teams to clarify technical requirements, resolve drawing discrepancies, and ensure that design changes are communicated accurately. The designer also helps maintain compliance with relevant technical standards, safety requirements, and internal design procedures.
The position works closely with mechanical engineers, product development teams, manufacturing specialists, project coordinators, and other stakeholders to deliver accurate and practical design solutions. The designer prepares technical reports, maintains design documentation, tracks revisions, and supports project schedules through effective coordination and organized file management. Through precise technical drafting, thoughtful design development, and systematic documentation, the role contributes to product quality, manufacturing efficiency, and successful engineering project delivery.
Qualifications
Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
Understanding of mechanical engineering principles, technical drawing standards, geometric dimensioning, and tolerancing.
Ability to interpret engineering specifications, assembly drawings, component layouts, and technical documentation.
Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, or similar design tools.
Knowledge of three-dimensional modeling, assembly design, drafting techniques, and drawing revision control.
Understanding of material properties, manufacturing processes, component selection, and mechanical assembly requirements.
Ability to prepare detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, design reports, and component specifications.
Strong spatial visualization, mathematical reasoning, and technical problem-solving abilities.
Excellent attention to detail when checking dimensions, tolerances, component interfaces, and drawing accuracy.
Strong organizational and time-management skills to coordinate design tasks and meet project deadlines.
Ability to communicate technical information clearly and collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams.
