About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Become the Champion of the Runvil Workshop!
What is it?
The Runvil Workshop is a clone of VS Code and Cursor, written from scratch
and built from the ground up using safe Rust and clean TypeScript. Open source, this
agentic IDE will empower everyone to use local and hosted models in agentic workflows
to build exciting projects like web applications, apps, games, or anything that can be
imagined. This IDE takes the best ideas from various projects and brings them together
under one executable, and powers its agentic workflow using the Runvil prompting
language.

What's under the hood?
Runvil is the C++ Alliance's open-source Rust workspace for running LLM workloads: an
OpenAI-compatible gateway, provider and model routing, a prompt-pipeline execution
engine, and credential isolation. The Workshop is where all of that comes alive. It's a Tauri
desktop app with a Rust host and a TypeScript single-page frontend, and it's where
people will use Runvil every day.
What's the role?
You'll be the Workshop's champion: the one engineer whose entire job is the UI. Not the
engine, not the harness, the interface. Others own what runs underneath. You own
everything a user sees, touches, and types into, with the mandate to make it excellent.
What will you build?
The text editor: the core surface for writing prompts and pipelines, with syntax
highlighting, keybindings, and speed on large files.
The preview window: live rendering of prompt and pipeline output as the user works.
Menus and commands: the menu system, command palette, and shortcuts, designed
as one coherent model.
The terminal: an embedded terminal that feels native, not bolted on.
GitHub integration: a working-set view of modified files, diffs, and repository state.
The whole shell: layout, panes, state management, theming, and the UI side of the
Rust-to-TypeScript bridge.
The polish: testing, accessibility, responsiveness, and a consistent design language,
kept sharp over time.
What do you bring?
You're native in both Rust and TypeScript and move between them without friction.
You've shipped desktop applications built on a Rust host with a web frontend, ideally
Tauri.
You know single-page applications deeply: state management, routing, rendering
performance, and component architecture.
You've built or extended a serious code editor component (CodeMirror, Monaco, or
similar).
You've integrated a terminal emulator (xterm.js or similar) into an application.
You've worked with Git and the GitHub API to surface repository state in a UI.
You have a portfolio or public repositories showing UI work you're proud of.
Bonus points
You've built developer tools or IDE-style applications.
You know your way around LLM tooling, prompt workflows, or agent interfaces.
You contribute to open source and enjoy working in public.
You have an eye for design, or a track record of close collaboration with designers.
Is this you?
You get genuinely excited about building UI and want to own a product surface end to end.
You care about the details users feel: latency, keyboard flow, focus, and polish. You're
comfortable working autonomously in a small team, making design calls, and defending
them with working software. If that sounds like you, come build the Workshop!
