About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Company Description:
FreeWebStore (freewebstore.online) is a platform where small businesses get a professional website by simply describing their business to an AI agent. The agent picks a niche template — designed by humans like you — and tailors it into a polished, production-quality single-page site. Deployed in under a second on Cloudflare's global edge. Free hosting, free custom domains, forever. We currently have 108 niche templates across 15 categories (restaurants, salons, fitness studios, creative professionals, trades, and more) and are expanding the catalog.
Role Description:
You'll design website templates that an AI agent uses to build sites for real small businesses. Each template is a single index.html file — pure HTML + Tailwind CSS, no frameworks, no build tools. You mark customization points (business name, tagline, contact info) with data attributes, and the AI handles the rest: swapping in the real business details, adjusting colors, adding industry-specific sections.
What you'll actually do:
- Design beautiful, responsive single-page templates for specific business niches (e.g., yoga studios, Italian restaurants, barbershops, photography studios)
- Write clean HTML with Tailwind utility classes — mobile-first, dark mode support, accessibility baked in
- Use our CLI (fws init, fws publish) to scaffold, validate, and publish templates
- Work in any AI-assisted editor you like (Cursor, Claude Code, VS Code + Copilot) — we call this "vibecoding" and it's how we work
- Get a public designer profile on freewebstore.online with credit on every site that uses your template, plus a GitHub repo for each template you publish
What makes this different from a typical design internship:
- You're not mocking up in Figma and handing off to a developer. You design directly in code — HTML + Tailwind — and your template goes live on real business websites
- Your designs are used by an AI agent, so you'll learn how to design for AI consumption (slot markers, semantic structure, section types)
- Every template you publish gets a live preview URL, a GitHub repo under your name, and an adoption counter showing how many businesses use it
- You'll build a real, public portfolio of shipped work — not mockups in a folder
Qualifications:
- Solid understanding of HTML and CSS (Tailwind experience is a plus but we can teach it)
- Good visual design sense: typography, spacing, color, layout hierarchy
- Responsive design skills — your templates must work from mobile to desktop
- Comfort working in a code editor (not Figma-only designers)
- Interest in AI-assisted development and working alongside AI tools
- A portfolio showing web design work — student projects, personal sites, or Codepen experiments all count
- Self-motivated and comfortable working async/remote
Nice to have:
- Experience with Tailwind CSS
- Familiarity with accessibility best practices (semantic HTML, contrast, alt text)
- Eye for industry-specific design (e.g., you know what makes a restaurant site feel different from a law firm site)
What you get:
- Published templates with your name on them, used by real businesses
- Public designer profile page (freewebstore.online/designer/your-handle)
- GitHub contributions to an open-source project (MIT licensed)
- Experience designing for AI — a genuinely novel skill
- Reference letter upon completion
