About OnyX
OnyX Corporations is a renewable energy development and advisory business focused on solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid energy projects across Australia.
Every project we develop starts with a commercial conversation: finding the right site, understanding the landowner, building the right partnerships and identifying where the market is heading. Our commercial and strategy function is where this work happens.
We are looking for motivated, commercially minded interns and graduates who enjoy working with people, researching opportunities and turning ideas into real projects.
The Role
You will join OnyX’s Commercial / Strategy team, reporting directly to Ryan Zhou, Director. Working under supervision on real projects, your work may include:
Business development — supporting outreach, partnerships and pipeline growth.
Landowner engagement — assisting with landowner outreach, communications and engagement materials.
Opportunity prospecting — identifying and qualifying candidate sites and development opportunities.
Marketing — supporting content, campaigns, and brand and communications activity.
Data analysis — assisting with data acquisition, cleansing, analysis and visualisation.
Market research — researching markets, competitors, policy and industry trends.
Strategy implementation — supporting the delivery of strategic initiatives and internal projects.
Site visits — attending project sites, landowner properties and external meetings under supervision, observing site conditions, assisting with site assessments and preparing site notes and records.
Handling all company information and client data with strict confidentiality.
What We Are Looking For
We are open to university students and recent graduates from backgrounds such as:
Commerce / Business
Marketing / Communications
Economics
Finance
Engineering
Environmental Science
Geography / GIS
Data Science / Analytics
Energy or related disciplines
Your degree matters less to us than how you think and work.
You should be:
A clear and confident written and verbal communicator.
Comfortable reaching out to people you have never met and building rapport.
Curious about how renewable energy projects are originated and developed.
Strong at research and able to turn information into practical recommendations.
Organised and detail-oriented, with good follow-through.
Comfortable working independently and asking questions when needed.
Professional and trustworthy when handling confidential information.
Available to work full-time, on-site, for the duration of the internship.
Tools & Technology
Experience with any of the following is useful, but not essential:
Excel
PowerPoint and Word
Canva or other design tools
CRM and LinkedIn for outreach
Google Earth, QGIS or other mapping tools
Web research and data extraction
ChatGPT, Claude and other AI tools
We strongly value candidates who are open to experimenting with new technology.
At OnyX, we expect our team to use AI and other productivity tools intelligently — not to replace thinking, but to research faster, automate repetitive work and improve the quality of output.
The Type of Person Who Will Do Well Here
You will likely enjoy this internship if you:
Enjoy talking to people and learning what matters to them.
Like uncovering opportunities that others have overlooked.
Are interested in how deals, partnerships and projects come together.
Notice what could be done better and take initiative to fix it.
Prefer solving a problem over waiting for detailed instructions.
Care about producing something genuinely useful rather than simply completing assigned hours.
We operate with high trust, low bureaucracy and high accountability.
What You Will Gain
This is a hands-on internship, not an observation program.
You will receive mentorship, guidance and regular feedback, and the opportunity to participate in real industry projects. You will gain exposure to:
Renewable energy project origination and development
Landowner engagement and negotiation
Business development and partnerships
Site assessment and project site visits
Market, policy and competitor research
Commercial strategy and decision-making
Upon satisfactory completion, you will receive a reference letter, career coaching and networking opportunities.
The internship begins with an unpaid three-months training period. Strong performers may be offered a paid internship or employment position based on performance and business needs.
Our internship program is also an important part of how we identify future team members.
