Full-Time Permanent Position
Are you ready to bring your experience, expertise and passion for precision to a dynamic, fast-growing team?
JMT Consultants is a North American–based global leader in structural design and detailing solutions. Through our Accelerated Project Delivery™ (APD) approach, we bring engineering, detailing, and technology together under one coordinated workflow to deliver efficient, constructible projects. Our services include preconstruction modeling, structural design, steel and rebar detailing, connection design and stair engineering, and BIM management. We work on complex, fast-paced projects and value practical problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world construction knowledge.
We are looking for a seasoned professional who will be responsible for leading a team of engineers focused on structural connection design and stair engineering. This role ensures high-quality, code-compliant, and fabrication-ready design while driving efficiency, standardization, and collaboration across engineering, detailing, and project teams. JMT Consultants Inc. is expanding, and we're eager to welcome an enthusiastic professional to enhance our dedicated team where we value precision, efficiency, quality, and a keen eye for detail.
What You’ll Do:
Lead a team of engineers through the delivery of steel connection design projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes (AISC, CISC, CSA) and optimizing for constructability, cost, and quality.
Manage and mentor a team of engineers, supporting their development, performance, and resource allocation across multiple projects.
Drive the adoption of engineering tools and standardization of processes, including QA/QC and workflow improvements between engineering and detailing.
Collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders (detailers, fabricators, EORs) to resolve design challenges and ensure alignment between design intent and fabrication.
Oversee project execution, including schedules, budgets, RFIs, and revisions, while supporting project management efforts.
Maintain awareness of industry standards and market requirements, particularly across Canadian and U.S. projects.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (master’s preferred).
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation / ability to pursue PE stamp in the USA.
8–12+ years of experience in structural engineering, with strong emphasis on steel connection design.
Previous experience in a lead or supervisory role is highly preferred.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Must be based in Winnipeg or willing to relocate.
Valid passport and able to travel to USA.
What Makes You Stand Out
Deep knowledge of structural connection design, load paths and structural systems.
Strong experience with: Idea StatiCa, RAM Connection, RISA Suite, Tekla Structures and/or Revit (preferred for coordination understanding).
Familiarity with fabrication and erection practices.
Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
