Javanese Language Specialist (Aksara Jawa) — Contract, Remote

About the work
Montu is building a platform that pays people in Indonesia to produce language data for AI companies. We are preparing our first cohort of Javanese-speaking contributors and hiring two language specialists.
Responsibilities
Translate approximately 370 interface strings from English into Javanese, written in Aksara Jawa. These are short: buttons, status messages, task instructions, and a small number of longer passages explaining how the work and the payments function
Review work produced by our first cohort of contributors and judge whether it is genuinely Javanese, correctly written, and at the appropriate register
Advise on Ngoko and Krama usage where the interface or the task instructions require a choice
Two positions, and they do not overlap. One specialist helps prepare the first contributor samples. The second reviews finished work blind, without knowing who produced it, and never reviews material the first specialist has touched. You will be told which position you hold before you begin. Both are paid by Montu and we state that in every document where the results appear.
Requirements
Javanese as a first language
Full literacy in Aksara Jawa, not only Latin-script Javanese
Ability to judge register and explain the reasoning
Working English, sufficient to translate from English source text
Formal linguistics training is welcome and not required.
