Job Description:
We are looking for an experienced Full Stack Developer with strong expertise in React.js, Node.js (Express), SQL Server, and Microsoft Azure to design, develop, and support features for an insurance document portal.
The application uses React for the frontend, Node.js and Express for backend APIs, SQL Server for application data, and Azure services for authentication, document storage, configuration, and monitoring.
The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience delivering end-to-end web application features, including UI development, API implementation, database changes, cloud integrations, access control, testing, and production troubleshooting. The candidate will work closely with business and engineering stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable functionality.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end application features using React.js, Node.js, Express, and SQL Server.
Build and maintain document management workflows, including file uploads, browsing, previews, metadata management, and team-based queues.
Integrate the application with Azure Data Lake or Azure Blob Storage for document storage and Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) for authentication.
Implement role-based access control (RBAC), enforcing authorization at the backend/API level in addition to the frontend.
Develop and optimize SQL queries, joins, filtering, pagination, and indexes to maintain application performance as data volumes grow.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the frontend, backend APIs, database, authentication, and document storage.
Implement API validation, error handling, structured logging, and automated tests covering functionality, data validation, and permissions.
Write clean, maintainable, and reusable code while participating in code reviews and technical discussions.
Translate business requirements into clear UI behavior, API contracts, and database changes.
Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver reliable, secure, and well-tested application features.
Required Skills and Experience
Experience: 4+ years of hands-on experience developing and supporting production web applications using React.js and Node.js.
Frontend: Strong JavaScript skills and practical experience with React components, state management, routing, forms, API integration, and loading, empty, and error states.
Backend: Strong Node.js and Express.js experience, including REST API development, request validation, authentication middleware, authorization, and structured error handling.
Database: Strong Microsoft SQL Server skills, including joins, filtering, pagination, query optimization, indexing fundamentals, and troubleshooting slow or incorrect queries.
Microsoft Azure: Hands-on experience with application authentication using Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD, Azure Data Lake or Blob Storage, and Azure App Service or equivalent application hosting.
Document Management: Practical experience implementing file upload/download functionality, file type and size validation, and secure file handling.
Security: Understanding of authentication, authorization, role-based access control, and server-side permission enforcement.
Testing: Ability to write and maintain tests for APIs, validation, application behavior, and access permissions.
Production Support: Experience diagnosing and resolving issues across the browser, APIs, database, and cloud storage.
Problem-Solving: Ability to complete a short live JavaScript coding exercise involving UI state management and an API or permission rule, and explain the implementation decisions.
Communication: Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to business and engineering stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry.
Familiarity with Microsoft Graph, Azure Application Insights, or similar monitoring and alerting solutions.
Experience with Jest, React Testing Library, Supertest, or equivalent testing frameworks.
Exposure to CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
Understanding of document governance, including audit logging, access history, and retention policies.
Experience mentoring developers through code reviews, technical guidance, and design discussions.
