Role Overview -
We are looking for a Senior Software Developer with strong hands-on expertise in PHP/PrestaShop and modern JavaScript (React.js and Next.js). This role is for a developer who can own e-commerce builds end to end, from scoping and estimating client requests to delivery, and who can mentor other developers while doing so. The ideal candidate writes clean, secure and performant code, makes sound technical decisions, and communicates clearly with UK-based clients.
Key Responsibilities -
Develop and maintain custom PrestaShop 1.7/8 modules, hooks, overrides and Smarty themes.
Build production-grade front ends with React.js, Next.js and TypeScript, including server-side rendering.
Design and integrate REST APIs and third-party services such as payment gateways, shipping providers and product feeds.
Deliver Shopify theme and app work (Liquid, Shopify APIs) and support platform migrations between e-commerce systems.
Optimise MySQL queries, caching and Core Web Vitals to keep sites fast and scalable.
Apply secure coding practices and manage Git workflows and Linux server deployments.
Scope and estimate client requests, and own builds end to end.
Lead code reviews, mentor developers, and maintain clear technical documentation.
Required Skills & Experience -
5-8 years in web development, including 3+ years hands-on with PrestaShop/PHP and 2+ years with React/Next.js.
Strong command of PHP 8 and PrestaShop 1.7/8, including custom modules, hooks, overrides, Smarty and Symfony-based back-office work.
Advanced experience with React.js, Next.js, TypeScript and Node.js.
Proven experience with e-commerce integrations (payments, shipping, product feeds) and Shopify (Liquid).
Solid MySQL design and query tuning, with a focus on performance optimisation and security.
Confident with Git, code reviews, Linux deployments and technical documentation.
Strong logical thinking, problem-solving skills, mentoring ability and excellent written English for UK clients.
