About The Role
BNY is seeking an experienced engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership and increase the impact of the wider team. Based in New York, NY, you will guide engineering decisions, strengthen delivery practices, and help create software that is secure, scalable, resilient, and valuable to clients and the business. You will bring sound judgment to complex technical challenges while remaining ready to learn new domains and adapt as priorities evolve.
This role combines software development and architectural thinking with mentorship and cross-functional partnership. You will use AI-enabled tools thoughtfully throughout the engineering lifecycle, from design and coding to testing, review, and documentation. Human accountability remains essential, particularly for high-risk decisions, verification, and the quality of production-ready work.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. An advanced degree is welcome. You will bring at least 12 years of professional software development experience, with demonstrated strength in full-stack engineering and system or application architecture.
Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, SQL, and RESTful and streaming API design is required. You should have hands-on experience delivering cloud-native solutions using microservices, containers, and modern deployment practices, along with working knowledge of NoSQL and distributed data stores. Experience in securities, financial services, or an engineering-led organization is an advantage. Familiarity with GenAI or machine-learning services and their responsible integration into enterprise platforms is also valuable.
Responsibilities
You will multiply team impact through practical technical leadership, mentorship, and a commitment to high engineering standards. You will help colleagues develop, build trust across functions, share credit, and support effective collaboration and delivery.
Key responsibilities include designing architectures that balance simplicity, quality, scale, and security; applying strong fundamentals in software design, data, testing, and distributed systems; and creating reusable patterns, guardrails, and tools that accelerate delivery. You will simplify systems and workflows by reducing friction, manual effort, and unnecessary handoffs.
You will apply AI-enabled capabilities deliberately, assess their suitability, and verify outputs before they influence important decisions or production systems. You will also establish a reliability-first approach through secure coding, effective observability, thorough testing, and disciplined release, rollout, and rollback strategies. Ensure systems meet appropriate standards for resilience, performance, scalability, and operability.
Benefits
BNY offers competitive compensation and benefits grounded in a culture of excellence and a pay-for-performance philosophy. The final offer is determined individually based on factors such as experience and work location. Total compensation may also include incentives, discretionary bonuses, and company-sponsored benefits.
