ABOUT THE ROLE
Our client is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic to keep its heavy industrial equipment running safely and reliably. You'll repair, rebuild and maintain the machinery that drives production, and you'll be the first call when something breaks down.
This is a hands-on role for someone who likes solving mechanical problems under pressure. Steel mill or heavy manufacturing experience will help you hit the ground running.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Maintain and repair equipment: Service critical machinery such as roller tables, gearboxes, descalers, coilers, shears, pumps, conveyors and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot breakdowns: Diagnose mechanical failures quickly to limit production downtime, and lead root cause analysis so problems don't come back.
• Carry out preventive and predictive maintenance: Complete scheduled PM work, daily equipment inspections and precision alignments.
• Fabricate and weld: Cut, weld (MIG, TIG, stick/arc and stainless) and build or assemble replacement parts as needed.
• Document your work: Record work orders, maintenance activity and spare parts usage in a CMMS (e.g. Oracle or DataStream).
• Work safely: Follow PPE requirements and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and use your stop-work authority whenever conditions are unsafe.
WHAT YOU BRING
• 1 to 4 years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing or military setting. Steel mill experience is strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, drive systems and alignment techniques.
• Welding and fabrication skills.
• Ability to read mechanical schematics and blueprints.
• Availability for scheduled or unscheduled overtime when equipment needs require it.
• A strong commitment to safety.
NICE TO HAVE
• Technical certificate, or an associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical maintenance, industrial technology or a related field.
• Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes or other mobile equipment.
• Hands-on experience with a CMMS for work orders and parts tracking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This role is physically demanding and based in an active industrial plant with heat, noise and moving equipment. You'll need to:
• Stand and walk for long periods.
• Climb stairs and ladders and work at heights.
• Lift and maneuver heavy parts and tools (up to [XX] lbs).
• Wear required PPE throughout your shift.
