About The Role
Stord is seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to strengthen its data capabilities and help make reliable, accessible data a powerful resource across the business. In this role, you will design and maintain data pipelines, contribute to the evolution of the data warehouse, and establish processes that support trustworthy and useful data. You will also help prepare data for machine learning applications and collaborate with engineers working on AI systems.
You will partner with the broader data team, distributed analysts, product managers, and engineering teams to understand business needs and deliver practical data solutions. This position offers the opportunity to apply modern data engineering approaches in a fast-moving environment while contributing to systems that support Stord’s commerce and logistics platform.
Qualifications
Candidates should bring at least five years of experience in data engineering or a related discipline, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain data pipelines and data warehouses. Strong proficiency in SQL and Python is required, along with experience in data modeling, cloud platforms, and data transformation tools such as dbt or similar technologies. Experience with Google Cloud Platform is preferred.
Successful candidates will have hands-on familiarity with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or Prefect, data warehouse technologies such as BigQuery or Snowflake, data lake concepts, and Git or comparable version control systems. You should understand data engineering best practices and be comfortable preparing data for machine learning workflows. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, careful attention to detail, clear communication, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are important. Experience with logistics, supply chain, machine learning data preparation, or a startup environment is an advantage.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable, dependable data pipelines using appropriate modern tools. Contribute to the re-architecture and ongoing improvement of Stord’s data warehouse, with attention to performance, scalability, data quality, and usability. Build and maintain cloud data infrastructure, optimize storage and retrieval for performance and cost efficiency, monitor pipeline health, and investigate operational issues.
Implement data cleansing, transformation, validation, security, and governance practices. Work with stakeholders to define data requirements and develop fit-for-purpose models. Prepare and transform consistent, high-quality datasets for machine learning applications, enable appropriate data access, and support the engineering team as it works with ML models. Document pipelines and data models, share technical knowledge, provide guidance to data teammates, and collaborate across functions to integrate data and ML solutions into the Stord platform.
Benefits
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to data systems supporting a growing commerce and fulfillment business, work with modern cloud and data technologies, and collaborate with teams across engineering, analytics, product, and AI. You will have meaningful scope to improve data infrastructure, support data-informed decisions, and help shape how data capabilities develop as Stord scales. Specific employment benefits and eligibility details can be discussed during the hiring process.
