Applied Physics Specialist (AI Training)
About The Role
What if your expertise in quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and thermodynamics could directly shape how AI understands the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to stress-test cutting-edge Large Language Models — exposing the gaps in their physical reasoning and helping ensure they respect the fundamental laws that govern reality.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers and scientists who want to do intellectually rigorous work on their own schedule. No prior AI experience required — just deep domain expertise and a sharp, uncompromising mind.
Organization: Alignerr
Type: Hourly Contract
Location: Remote
Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
Design Advanced Problems — Craft PhD qualifying exam-level physics problems that demand multi-step logical reasoning, rigorous mathematical derivation, and mastery of first principles
Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write definitive, step-by-step "golden responses" with flawless physical constants, unit conversions, and airtight logical flow
Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated proofs and simulations for physical consistency, identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates conservation laws or boundary conditions
Refine Model Behaviour — Provide structured, expert feedback that helps AI systems develop genuine physics-informed reasoning across topics like quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and statistical mechanics
Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
Hold a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
Deep mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
Exceptionally clear and precise scientific writer — you can articulate complex derivations in structured, accessible English
Obsessively detail-oriented when it comes to units, notation, and the logical integrity of a proof
Self-motivated and consistent when working independently
No prior AI or tech experience required
Nice to Have
Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance systems
Proficiency with computational tools such as Python (NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL
Background in research, academia, or applied physics industries
Familiarity with AI tools or language model outputs as an end user
Why Join Us
Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
Direct impact on how AI reasons about the physical universe — work that actually matters
Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
Collaborate with a global community of domain experts pushing the frontier of AI capability
