AI Research Engineer | $75/hr Remote

Position: Staff Research Engineer Frontier AI, RL & Evaluation
Type: Contractor Assignment
Compensation: $75/hr
Location: Remote
Commitment: 40 hours/week, with at least 4 hours overlap during PST business hours
Role Responsibilities
Conduct research on frontier AI systems, including synthetic and agentic data generation, reinforcement learning, post-training, model understanding, benchmarks, and AI evaluation.
Design rigorous experiments and build research-grade datasets, prototypes, tooling, and evaluation frameworks.
Train, test, and evaluate AI/ML models, analyze experimental results, and establish practices for rigor, reproducibility, and data quality.
Translate research findings into practical improvements for AI systems and collaborate with research, engineering, product, and operations teams.
Requirements
7+ years of significant research engineering experience working on machine learning or frontier AI systems, with a Master s or PhD in AI, ML, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
Strong foundations in machine learning with practical experience designing experiments, training models, evaluating models, or developing AI systems.
Demonstrated research experience in reinforcement learning, post-training, AI evaluation, benchmarks, synthetic/agentic data generation, model understanding, or AI agents.
Strong Python programming skills and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks and research tooling.
