An infrastructure contractor running projects across western India
Location: Mumbai or Pune, based at head office and travelling to live sites each month
The situation
The contractor currently runs nine road, bridge and industrial-building projects across Maharashtra and Gujarat. Each site has a project head who plans in his own way, and the head office sees cost and schedule slippage only when the monthly review arrives. The company has partnered with Flexiple to hire a Lead Project Manager who will bring one planning and reporting method to all of them. What you would take on
Lead a team of four project managers and planning engineers, and review each site plan with its project head
Introduce a common baseline schedule, cost-to-complete report and monthly progress pack across all sites
Track subcontractor mobilisation, material procurement and client billing milestones against the plan
Chair the monthly portfolio review with the directors and decide, with them, where to add resources
Own claims, variation orders and extension-of-time notes, so the paperwork is ready before a dispute starts
Where the first ninety days go
Visiting every site once, learning how each team plans, agreeing a baseline and a reporting calendar, and picking the two projects most at risk to put right first.
Who we want
8 to 12 years in construction or infrastructure project management, with at least three years leading project managers or multiple sites
Fluency with Primavera P6 or MS Project and with cost control on lump-sum and item-rate contracts
Understanding of client, PMC and consultant interfaces on public and private projects
A civil engineering degree; PMP is a plus
