About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
Bring your quantitative expertise. Challenge with confidence. Help shape how Finance assures model quality.
Are you ready to take your experience in model validation, model development, quantitative risk or model risk into a role where you can influence how models are developed, challenged and governed?
Join Morgan Stanley’s Finance Division in Budapest and become part of a developing Quality Assurance & Compliance capability focused on strengthening the quality, transparency and effectiveness of modelling processes.
This is an opportunity to combine quantitative understanding with risk judgement and business insight. You will review how models are developed and validated, challenge model developers and owners, identify weaknesses in processes and controls, and help ensure modelling approaches meet both technical and business expectations.
At Vice President level, you will operate with significant independence and work across ongoing projects rather than one-off reviews. This is primarily a technical and process leadership role, rather than a people-management position.
What you’ll do
* Review and challenge the quality of model development and validation activities, assessing whether approaches, documentation and processes are sufficiently robust.
* Understand the methodology, assumptions, limitations and intended business use of financial and risk models.
* Provide credible, independent challenge to model developers, validators and model owners.
* Assess whether modelling processes, controls and governance are operating effectively and consistently.
* Connect quantitative findings to their practical Finance, risk and business impact.
* Identify weaknesses, gaps and emerging risks, distinguish material issues from lower-risk observations, and escalate with sound judgement.
* Recommend pragmatic improvements and work with stakeholders to drive issues through remediation.
* Contribute to the continued development of the Quality Assurance & Compliance framework, helping shape standards and ways of working as the capability evolves.
* Partner across Finance, Model Risk, Risk Management and other technical and control functions in an international environment.
* Translate complex quantitative or process findings into clear conclusions and senior-level reporting.
* Support broader initiatives aimed at improving the quality, consistency and efficiency of model-related processes.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for someone who can bridge quantitative expertise with strong risk and business judgement.
You will ideally bring:
* Strong experience in Model Validation, Model Development, Model Risk Management, Quantitative Risk, Quantitative Finance, or a closely related discipline.
* The technical foundation to understand and critically assess quantitative models, rather than simply review their governance documentation.
* Experience reviewing or challenging model methodologies, assumptions, processes, controls or validation outcomes.
* Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify what matters within complex technical information.
* Confidence challenging experienced technical stakeholders while maintaining constructive relationships.
* An understanding of how models support financial, risk or business decisions.
* The ability to move comfortably between technical modelling discussions and broader governance, control and business considerations.
* Sound judgement around when an issue requires escalation and the ability to communicate the rationale clearly.
* A high level of accuracy, attention to detail and ownership.
* The ability to manage ongoing projects and priorities independently.
* Excellent written and verbal English.
Experience that would set you apart
You do not need to match every point. We would particularly welcome candidates with exposure to:
* Independent model validation or quantitative model review
* Financial or risk model development
* Model risk frameworks and model lifecycle governance
* Quality assurance or independent review of modelling processes
* Finance or risk analytics within banking or financial services
* Regulatory expectations relating to models and model risk
* Audit, controls or assurance combined with genuine quantitative/model exposure
* Large-scale model, risk or Finance transformation programmes
* Communicating technical findings to senior or non-technical stakeholders
