Assistant Accountant

We are looking for a motivated, analytical and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their accounting and commercial skills in a fast-paced, growing retail business.
As part of the Finance team, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business, maintaining strong financial controls and contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting.
The role offers a mix of hands-on accounting, financial analysis and opportunities to get involved in process improvements and wider business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with month-end reporting, including preparation and posting of journals, accruals and reconciliations.
Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of outstanding items.
Assist with cash and bank reconciliations and related financial reporting.
Support the management and monitoring of capital expenditure, including maintaining the fixed asset register.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, providing insights to support business decisions.
Support accounts payable processes.
Assist with GST, FBT and other statutory reporting requirements.
Support the annual audit process and preparation of supporting schedules.
Work collaboratively with the wider Finance team and business stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely financial information.
About You
We are looking for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, takes ownership of their work and is keen to continue learning and developing.
Ideally, you will have:
A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance.
At least two years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
Be working towards, or intending to pursue, a CA or CPA qualification.
Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
Experience with Xero or a similar accounting system.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
Good communication skills and the confidence to work with people across the business.
The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
A proactive approach, with a willingness to challenge existing processes and identify improvements.
