Department Introduction - External Manufacturing Network
The External Manufacturing (EM) Network is a core function within Roche Diagnostics Global Operations, serving as the centralized strategic technical authority for all outsourced production partners, Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs), and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) globally (excluding Hitachi). Operating with "One Technical Voice" and total operational accountability, EM manages high-volume plastic consumables, externally manufactured reagents, instruments, devices, and packaging.
Built upon five core strategic pillars, the External Manufacturing organization drives excellence across:
Strategic Partnerships: Building long-term technical alliances with CMOs/OEMs through shared performance metrics, collaborative governance, and talent exchange.
Resilient Supply & Compliance: Executing global quality and regulatory compliance while leveraging network expertise to de-risk external supply chains.
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Optimization: Driving cost-conscious manufacturing, material cost optimization, and continuous process improvements to lower TCO.
Technical Innovation: Accelerating product roadmaps by translating complex R&D and Customer Area requirements into scalable, high-volume products and production processes.
One-Network Culture: Harmonizing global execution via centralized Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) and Product & Project Leadership.
In the StartUp development journey for External Manufacturing, you will be expected to:
Gain end-to-end operational exposure across all External Manufacturing (EM) domains—including Reagents, Consumables, Packaging, and Instruments/Devices;
Support "Virtual Plant Leaders" and Technical Product Leads across EM domains. Participate in matrix product teams, capacity planning, production strategy implementation, change workflows, and cross-functional technology transfers;
Engage in high-volume plastics development, process engineering, design control deliverables, test planning, in-process controls (IPC), product release testing, visual inspection, and qualification/validation (Q&V) projects in alignment with global MSAT guidelines;
Collaborate with Global Diagnostics Procurement (DOP) on supplier relationship management and sourcing; Global Supply Chain (GSC) on Design for Distribution and planning; and SPBO/OPPM on project prioritization, portfolio steering, and master data governance;
Gain hands-on experience in site governance, external manufacturing operational readiness, supplier technical evaluations, and local customs/import-export compliance.
Proactively apply technical and business knowledge to deliver patient- and customer-centric outcomes across external manufacturing domains;
Support cross-functional project execution (such as technology transfers, design transfers, packaging engineering transitions, and supplier switches) within established governance frameworks;
Leverage Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) mindsets to identify efficiency and process optimization opportunities.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Strong interest or foundational knowledge in medical device manufacturing, high-volume plastics, reagents/consumables packaging, or contract manufacturing oversight;
Strong logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, structured project management, and task prioritization capabilities;
Demonstrates strong digital aptitude with a proactive approach to leveraging AI tools, advanced analytics, and modern digital technologies to drive operational efficiency and insights;
