About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
BlueScope is an Australian-born global success story spanning 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our strength and we want our people to be safe, successful and well. We’re leaders and innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society, today and in the future. We’re proud of brands, like COLORBOND ® steel that inspire and protect everything from hospitals to bridges and stadiums.
The Opportunity
BlueScope Distribution is looking for a Customer Service Officer to join the Customer Service team based in Albury, NSW. BlueScope Distribution is a single-source provider of product, processing and service solutions in steel and aluminium product. The business supports customers in a variety of industries and works with them to help deliver projects on time and to specification. BlueScope Distribution supports its customers by helping them find the freedom to do what they do best.
There's plenty of variety in the role. You'll be a key point of contact for customers, helping them work through questions, orders and changing requirements. Behind the scenes, you'll work closely with our sales and warehouse teams to coordinate quotes, product details and deliveries.
You don't need to know steel to do well here. Your experience might come from sales, medical reception or patient services, a trade counter, retail, automotive or another busy customer-facing workplace. You might already spend your day managing enquiries, keeping track of orders or appointments, solving problems, coordinating with different teams and making sure nothing gets missed. The industry may be different, but much of the way you already work will be familiar here.
You’ll have time and support to build your knowledge in the role. Your first three months will include structured onboarding, with time to learn our products, systems and processes and plenty of cross-training within the team. You'll build your knowledge as you go, with support from people across the business as you get to know our customers and how we work.
What Will You Do?
Some days you'll be preparing quotes and processing orders. Others you'll be tracking down an answer, working through a change or coordinating with different teams to get something sorted for a customer.
As part of our NSW Sales team, you will:
manage customer enquiries by phone and email
prepare quotes and provide product and pricing information
process and follow up orders, quotes and customer requests
work with our sales, warehouse and other teams to coordinate customer requirements
keep customers updated and make sure important details are followed through
build strong relationships with customers and identify new sales opportunities
look for practical ways to improve the customer experience and how we work
More About You
You might already have customer service or sales experience, or your skills might have been built somewhere completely different. You’ll enjoy working with people, be organised in the way you work and take pride in seeing things through. You'll bring:
clear and confident communication
strong organisation and attention to detail
the ability to manage several tasks and make sure nothing is missed
a practical approach to solving problems
the ability to work with different teams to find customer solutions
confidence using Microsoft Office and learning new systems
