This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP, Strategic Finance & FP&A based in the United States.
Lead enterprise financial planning, strategic finance, and performance management for a growing digital consumer finance business.
Reporting directly to the CFO, you will connect business strategy with financial execution, translating complex data into actionable decisions.
Own forecasting, budgeting, performance reviews, and strategic analysis across multiple business lines.
Partner with executive leadership, Capital Markets, Accounting, and external stakeholders to support funding decisions and long-term value creation.
Build scalable financial models, reporting systems, and operating processes that improve visibility, accountability, and decision-making.
Develop a high-performing finance team while guiding strategic initiatives, evaluating growth opportunities, and strengthening financial discipline.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a builder-operator who thrives in ambiguity and wants to make a meaningful impact on both business performance and consumers’ financial well-being.
Accountabilities
Own enterprise planning and performance management: Lead budgeting, forecasting, and performance reviews across the enterprise and its business units. Develop driver-based forecasts covering volume, unit economics, consumer credit performance, funding costs, and operating leverage.
Drive strategic finance and value creation: Translate business strategy into measurable, funded initiatives. Evaluate growth opportunities, product economics, partnerships, and potential acquisitions, and develop scenario analyses to support executive and board-level decisions.
Strengthen executive and investor reporting: Own financial performance reporting for senior leadership, the board, lenders, and investors. Develop board presentations, KPI frameworks, and executive dashboards; monitor debt covenant compliance; and support audit and valuation processes, including 409A valuations.
Partner on capital markets, liquidity, and treasury: Collaborate with Capital Markets and Accounting on funding strategies, loan sales, asset-backed securities transactions, and liquidity planning. Oversee day-to-day treasury activities, including cash management and warehouse credit line planning.
Modernize financial systems and processes: Improve financial models, planning tools, reporting infrastructure, and data governance to establish consistent metrics, reliable forecasts, and a single source of truth.
Build and develop the finance organization: Recruit, lead, and mentor FP&A and strategic finance talent. Establish clear operating rhythms, accountability frameworks, and model governance standards while partnering cross-functionally on budgets, financial close, and return on investment.
Provide strategic leadership: Set clear priorities, navigate ambiguity, make informed decisions with incomplete information, and maintain composure under pressure. Establish repeatable processes, hold teams accountable for outcomes, develop future leaders, and connect functional performance to broader enterprise value.
Requirements
Senior finance experience: 10+ years of experience in FP&A, strategic finance, corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or a related field, including at least 4 years of team leadership.
Relevant industry expertise: Experience in a scaled fintech, consumer lending, or financial services environment, ideally involving lending, payments, or similar products. Strong understanding of consumer credit economics is essential.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related discipline. An MBA, CFA, or CPA is preferred.
Advanced financial modeling: Strong expertise in financial modeling, Excel or Google Sheets, enterprise planning, valuation, and scenario analysis. Familiarity with SQL and business intelligence tools is expected.
Accounting and regulatory knowledge: Working knowledge of GAAP as it relates to forecasting and financial performance, including CECL, fair value, and gain-on-sale accounting.
Capital markets understanding: Familiarity with funding structures, warehouse facilities, securitization, and their implications for financial planning and liquidity management is a strong advantage.
Executive communication: Demonstrated ability to present complex financial information clearly to senior executives, board members, investors, lenders, and other external stakeholders. Strong influencing and relationship-building skills are essential.
Builder-operator mindset: Comfortable moving from strategy and ideation through hands-on execution. Able to create structure in ambiguous environments, improve existing systems, and balance strategic thinking with operational detail.
Leadership and accountability: Demonstrated ability to set priorities, make sound decisions as circumstances change, establish clear ownership, address performance issues, and build repeatable operating processes.
People development: Experience mentoring talent, supporting career development, building succession plans, and strengthening organizational capabilities.
Enterprise perspective: Understands key financial drivers, including revenue, cost, and efficiency, and connects functional decisions to broader business outcomes.
Work authorization: The employer is unable to provide H-1B visa transfers or sponsorship, or STEM OPT visa support.
Location and work arrangement: Open to hybrid opportunities in the San Francisco, California, and Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan areas, as well as remote work in selected locations across the Pacific, Mountain, and Central time zones.
