Application Software Engineering Architect

Adheres to and improves execution of all phases of the application software development lifecycle; coaches and defines best practices across teams or units to drive application-focused improvements. Acts as a thought leader within the organization to drive the development of new application features and enhancements following design specifications, ensuring accessibility, and develops documents to clarify application design and code. Leads and drives improvements in process, application architecture, and code reviews across products/services. Utilizes strategy and innovation to conduct debugging and troubleshooting to identify and fix highly complex and/or ambiguous application issues. Resolves or re-architects highly complex and systemic issues requiring strategy and innovation related to application programming interface (API) functionality, integration, and service-to-service interactions. Influences and supports the design and development of application software, systems, and services. Defines project or design scope; reviews, influences, and approves scope and design recommendations for application components and services. Collaborates cross-functionally with stakeholders to orchestrate efforts to understand customer use cases, root causes, and mitigations to align and explain rationale behind application solutions. Provides modern/emerging technical guidance and support to customers regarding application-related issues. Collaborates with the security team and across business lines to establish, follow, and improve upon application development practices, secure coding standards, and code quality, providing coaching to less experienced team members. Steers strategic decision-making processes for performing periodic maintenance and testing operations for application systems that require upgrading or patching (e.g., for critical vulnerabilities).

Education and/or Experience:
18 years of experience in software development

Sets application platform strategy and north-star architectures across organizations; ensures long-term scalability and resilience.
Governs production excellence standards globally; drives investment in reliability, security, and compliance engineering.
Anticipates and resolves organization-spanning failure modes; establishes preventive architecture and runbooks.
Defines organization-wide quality frameworks, tooling ecosystems, and continuous verification strategies.
Steers architectural modernization (e.g., domain boundaries, multi-region/active-active, event-driven patterns).
Establishes organization-wide patterns for code health, performance, and maintainability with measurable outcomes.
