Staff Product Manager (Library Preparation and Automation)
OPPORTUNITY
PacBio is advancing highly accurate long-read sequencing to enable new applications in genomics research and genetic testing. Efficient, scalable, and reliable library preparation workflows are essential to helping customers adopt our technology and realize its full potential.
We are seeking an experienced Staff Product Manager to lead our portfolio of library preparation products and automation solutions. This role will focus on understanding customer needs, defining product strategy, managing products throughout their lifecycle, and working with internal teams and external partners to deliver solutions that improve ease of use, throughput, and laboratory efficiency.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Staff Product Manager for library preparation and automation, you will own PacBio's library preparation portfolio, including whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and RNA sequencing (Kinnex) products, as well as associated sample preparation and automation solutions.
You will work closely with customers, particularly high-throughput laboratories and large-scale sequencing centers, to understand their needs, which you will translate into product requirements and roadmaps, working with Research & Development, Manufacturing, and commercial teams to prioritize and deliver improvements.
You will also manage relationships with key automation and workflow partners, supporting the development and commercialization of integrated solutions that simplify and scale PacBio library preparation.
This is a senior individual contributor role requiring strong scientific and technical knowledge, commercial judgment, and a hands-on approach to product management. Success will be measured by your ability to improve the customer experience, gain adoption of your portfolio, and contribute to business growth.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Product portfolio management: Own PacBio's library preparation portfolio, including WGS and RNA (Kinnex) library preparation products, reagents, and associated workflow solutions. Manage products throughout their lifecycle, from concept and development through launch, commercialization, improvement, and end of life. Define product requirements, prioritize investments, and build business cases for new products and enhancements.
Customer engagement and requirements: Work directly with customers across market segments to understand their workflows, challenges, and unmet needs. Develop strong relationships with strategically important customers, particularly high-throughput laboratories, and translate customer feedback into actionable product requirements.
Sales enablement and commercial support: Support the Sales and Field Applications teams in communicating product capabilities, workflow requirements, and customer value. Develop and maintain sales presentations, application notes, competitive comparisons, technical collateral, and training materials. Participate in strategic customer discussions and commercial opportunities.
External partnerships for automation: Build and maintain relationships with automation providers, reagent suppliers, and other technology partners. Coordinate joint development, workflow qualification, compatibility testing, and co-marketing activities to expand the availability of integrated PacBio solutions.
Forecasting and business performance: Partner with Sales, Finance, and Manufacturing to develop product demand forecasts, manage inventory considerations, and support supply planning. Monitor product revenue, adoption, profitability, and other performance metrics to inform portfolio decisions.
Market and competitive intelligence: Maintain a strong understanding of emerging library preparation technologies, automation platforms, customer workflows, and competitive solutions. Identify trends and opportunities that influence product strategy and development priorities.
Scientific conferences and customer engagement: Represent PacBio at relevant scientific conferences, industry events, and customer meetings. Engage with researchers, laboratory leaders, and technology partners to understand market needs, communicate product capabilities, and identify new opportunities.
