Software Architect

We are looking for a hands-on Software Architect with deep exposure to large-scale data movement systems who enjoys working close to the code and solving complex distributed systems problems in a fast-moving SaaS environment.
Responsibilities:
Architecture and Hands-On Design: Architect, design, and implement core services responsible for large-scale data movement, data migration, tiering, and lifecycle management. Drive architectural decisions for high-throughput, fault-tolerant, and resumable data transfers across on-prem, hybrid, and cloud environments.
Data Movement and Scale: Design systems to efficiently move and manage billions of files and petabytes of unstructured data with strong guarantees around consistency, performance, and reliability. Optimise data pipelines for throughput, latency, parallelism, and failure recovery.
Hands-On Development: Review complex designs and code changes, setting a high bar for quality, performance, and maintainability. Write production-quality Java code for critical architectural components and proofs-of-concept.
Distributed Systems: Design and evolve distributed systems involving coordination, concurrency, state management, and scaling. Address challenges related to clustering, leader election, retries, idempotency, and fault tolerance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, QA, and Customer teams to understand real-world data movement use cases and constraints. Incorporate customer feedback and field learnings into architectural improvements.
Agile Execution: Participate in agile planning and execution, helping teams break down architectural designs into deliverable features. Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term architectural health.
Problem Management: Lead root-cause analysis of complex customer issues related to performance, scale, or data consistency. Design and drive long-term fixes rather than tactical workarounds.
Technology Direction: Evaluate and introduce new technologies, frameworks, and design patterns relevant to data movement, cloud storage, and distributed systems. Contribute to the long-term architectural roadmap of the Komprise platform.
Requirements:
Experience: 10+ years of software development experience, with substantial experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
Data Movement Expertise: Proven experience building or architecting systems for data migration, data replication, synchronisation, or large-scale file/object transfers.
Computer Science Fundamentals: Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, multi-threading, and system design.
Programming and Design: Deep hands-on experience with Java and object-oriented design, with a strong focus on performance and scalability.
Distributed and Cloud Systems: Experience with distributed systems, clustering, and horizontal scaling. Experience with object-based cloud storage systems is a plus (e. g., Amazon S3 Azure Blob Storage, Google Cloud Storage).
SaaS and Platform Experience: Experience building and operating enterprise-grade SaaS platforms.
Problem Solving: Ability to reason through complex, ambiguous problems and arrive at simple, robust architectural solutions.
Collaboration and Influence: Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction through design, code, and technical leadership.
Tech Stack: Java, Maven, Virtualisation, SaaS, GitHub, Jira, Slack, Cloud Solutions, and Hypervisors.
