Sr. Software Engineer - Grade I

Amazon is looking for a strong individual contributor Senior Software Engineer who is deeply hands-on with coding, testing, system design, deployment, and operations. This role is ideal for engineers who have built and scaled production-grade, cloud-native SaaS or B2C products and take full ownership of services end to end. This is not a coordination or support role. You will actively design, code, test, deploy, and operate real-world systems at scale.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, deploy, and operate cloud-native, distributed systems end-to-end.
Build scalable backend services and APIs using Java / React.js .
Develop full-stack features using TypeScript (backend or frontend as applicable).
Own system design (HLD and LLD) for high-scale, high-availability services.
Design and manage databases (SQL and/or NoSQL), data models, and performance optimisation.
Build and deploy services on AWS using modern cloud-native practices.
Work with microservices, containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.
Implement testing strategies (unit, integration, and functional) and ensure production readiness.
Participate in incident handling, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements.
Collaborate closely with Product, Platform, and Engineering teams.
Mentor junior engineers and actively participate in design and code reviews.
Requirements:
2-4 years of hands-on software development experience.
Must be from product companies only (B2C / SaaS preferred).
Strictly NO services / consulting companies.
Experience working on customer-facing, large-scale products.
EdTech domain experience is NOT mandatory.
Strong ownership mindset and IC-first attitude.
A true hands-on senior engineer, not an architect-only profile.
Someone who has built, shipped, and supported real products.
Comfortable owning features from idea to production.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Passion for clean code, system design, and engineering excellence.
Core Development:
Strong hands-on experience Go OR Java OR Kotlin OR. NET.
Strong experience with TypeScript (backend or frontend).
Excellent problem-solving and coding skills with production experience.
System Design and Architecture:
Strong understanding of distributed systems.
Experience microservices architecture.
Hands-on experience in system design for scale, reliability, and performance.
Cloud and DevOps:
Strong experience with AWS (EC2 EKS, IAM, VPC, Lambda, etc. ).
Experience with Kubernetes and containerisation.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines.
Infrastructure-as-Code exposure is a plus.
Databases:
Strong experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
Data modelling, indexing, and performance tuning.
Quality and Operations:
Hands-on experience in testing, deployment, and production support.
Experience owning services in production environments.
Understanding of monitoring, logging, and observability.
