Title : Water Specialist
Location : Bangalore
Experience : 10-15 years
Qualification : BE/ B Tech
Role Purpose
The water specialist will lead the planning, engineering, execution, commissioning, and operational performance of industrial water and wastewater treatment projects. Requires strong technical expertise, project management capability, commercial awareness, and the ability to manage EPC contractors, technology partners, and consultants. The position will be responsible for delivering projects safely, within approved budgets and schedules, while ensuring compliance with applicable environmental, and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Lead end-to-end execution of industrial water and wastewater treatment projects from concept/design through commissioning and handover.
Develop project execution strategies, schedules, budgets, resource plans, and risk-management plans.
Monitor project progress against cost, schedule, quality, and performance targets.
Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and operations activities.
Identify project risks, delays, technical issues, and commercial concerns and implement corrective actions.
Manage project documentation, reporting, change management, and client communications.
Technical & Engineering Management
Provide technical leadership for industrial water and wastewater treatment systems.
Review and guide process design, hydraulic calculations, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and technical documentation.
Oversee technologies such as:
ETP/STP and industrial wastewater treatment
MBR/MBBR/ASP and biological treatment
RO, UF, NF and other membrane systems
ZLD and wastewater recovery systems
DM/softening and industrial water treatment
Clarification, filtration and tertiary treatment
Sludge management and dewatering
Chemical treatment and dosing systems
Evaluate treatment performance, water balance, energy consumption, chemical consumption, and overall plant efficiency.
Support troubleshooting and optimization of underperforming treatment plants.
Review technology proposals and evaluate vendors/technology partners.
Commercial & Business Responsibilities
Review BOQs, specifications, vendor quotations, and project costing.
Support contract negotiations and manage variations, claims, and commercial risks.
Track project profitability, cash flow, billing, and receivables in coordination with the commercial/finance team.
Identify opportunities for plant upgrades, O&M contracts, water reuse, resource recovery, and process optimization.
Compliance, Safety & Sustainability
Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations, consent conditions, discharge/reuse standards, and client requirements.
Promote strong HSE practices throughout project execution and plant operations.
Support sustainability initiatives involving water reuse, recycling, resource recovery, energy efficiency, and reduction of freshwater consumption.
Maintain appropriate technical, environmental, safety, and statutory documentation.
Key Performance Indicators
Projects delivered within approved cost and schedule
Achievement of contractual water/wastewater treatment performance guarantees
Water recovery and reuse percentage
Reduction in freshwater consumption and wastewater discharge
Energy and chemical consumption
HSE performance
Successful commissioning and timely project handover
Qualification
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience & Skills
10–15 years of relevant experience, preferably with significant experience in industrial water/wastewater treatment.
Proven experience managing medium-to-large turnkey water and wastewater projects.
Strong understanding of industrial wastewater characteristics and treatment processes.
Experience with industrial sectors such as food & beverage, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, textiles, or manufacturing is desirable.
Strong project planning, cost-control, contract-management, and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to read and review engineering drawings, process calculations, equipment specifications, and technical proposals.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making abilities.
Proficiency in MS Project, MS Excel, PowerPoint, and other project-management tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
