Picture yourself brightening someone’s day. When you join our Hotels team, that’s exactly what you’ll do every time you come to work! You are responsible for the general work order maintenance work assigned by your superior, or assisting the Engineering department’s maintenance team in completing other maintenance work. As an Hotel Handy-person, you’re not just responsible for ensuring the normal operation of hotel equipment – you’re spreading the light and warmth of hospitality by delivering memorable experiences that make the stay for every guest.
At Hilton, our core values define what it takes to succeed here and guide the qualities we look for in every team member:
A passion for spreading the light and warmth of Hospitality. Acting with Integrity and always doing the right thing. Inspiring others through Leadership. A belief that Teamwork drives the best outcomes. A sense of Ownership and accountability. And a focus on the Now, bringing urgency and discipline to every moment, knowing it can make a lasting impact.
In addition, this role requires the following minimum qualifications:
Previous maintenance experience, preferable within a hotel, hospitality, or customer-focused environment.
Strong practical skills across general building maintenance, or plumbing, or electrical, or mechanical work.
A hands-on team player with good analytical and problem-solving skills, able to work independently.
Strong sense of responsibility, teamwork, professionalism, and learning ability.
Active and motivated in work, with a good sense of service.
Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, safe work practices, and hazard identification, with a commitment to maintaining a safe workplace for guests and team members.
Available to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
Here’s what you’ll do during a typical day:
Property Maintenance: Carry out general maintenance and repairs across guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities to ensure the hotel remains in excellent condition.
Preventative Maintenance: Complete planned preventative maintenance programmes to minimise downtime and ensure all equipment and facilities operate efficiently.
Building Services: Assist with minor plumbing, electrical, mechanical, painting, and decorating work, maintaining high standards across the property.
Equipment Inspection: Regularly inspect hotel equipment, plant, and facilities, identifying and resolving maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance work completed and communicate any issues or follow-up requirements to the Maintenance Manager.
Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all health, safety, fire, and security procedures, ensuring a safe environment for guests, team members, and contractors.
Emergency Systems Support: Assist in monitoring and maintaining fire panels, sprinklers, emergency lighting, fire pumps, and other critical safety systems.
Department Collaboration: Work closely with all hotel departments, responding promptly to maintenance requests and supporting the delivery of exceptional guest experiences.
Operational Support: Assist with special projects and provide maintenance support across the hotel as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
Continuous Development: Participate in training and development opportunities to expand technical skills and stay up to date with maintenance best practices.
