Role: Legal & Compliance Lead – IT & Gig Workforce
Experience required: 10 to 15 years
Location:- Thane, Mumbai

Key Responsibilities
Gig Workforce Compliance & Governance
Develop and implement compliance frameworks for gig and platform workforce engagements.
Ensure compliance with applicable labour laws, social security provisions, wage regulations, taxation requirements, and government notifications related to gig workers.
Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and provide timely guidance to business stakeholders.
Establish robust governance mechanisms for workforce classification and engagement models
Vendor & Contract Compliance
Conduct due diligence assessments of gig workforce partners, aggregators, and staffing vendors.
Review and monitor contractual obligations, onboarding processes, KYC documentation, payment controls, and insurance coverage.
Ensure vendor compliance documentation is complete, updated, and audit-ready at all times.
Track compliance adherence across multiple vendors and locations.
Worker Classification: Review roles to ensure correct classification between employees and independent contractors to avoid legal risks.
Policy Development: Create and update compliance guidelines, handbooks, and terms of service for gig workers.
Regulatory Tracking: Monitor changing labor laws, tax rules, and worker protection policies across different regions.
Risk Management: Audit onboarding, payment systems, and worker data privacy practices to reduce legal exposure.
Training and Support: Train internal HR and operations teams on gig economy regulations and compliance best practices
Audit & Risk Management
Lead internal and external audits related to gig workforce operations.
Identify compliance gaps, assess risks, and recommend mitigation measures.
Maintain compliance dashboards, audit trackers, and corrective action plans.
Drive periodic compliance reviews and workforce governance assessments.
Workforce Documentation & Controls
Ensure maintenance of engagement agreements, onboarding records, attendance and payment records, insurance documents, and compliance artefacts.
Establish documentation standards to support audits, inspections, and legal reviews.
Maintain evidence repositories and audit trails for all gig workforce engagements.
Employee Relations & Grievance Management
Establish grievance redressal mechanisms for gig workforce members.
Support investigation and resolution of compliance-related complaints.
Facilitate awareness and compliance on workplace conduct, POSH, and ethical standards.
Coordinate with Legal, HR, and Compliance functions for issue resolution.
Stakeholder Management
Work closely with HR, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Operations, and external workforce partners.
Provide advisory support on gig workforce engagement models and compliance implications.
Drive awareness sessions and training programs for internal stakeholders and vendors.
Compliance Reporting & Analytics
Prepare monthly governance reviews, audit findings, compliance scorecards, and leadership updates.
Track key compliance metrics, audit observations, regulatory developments, and remediation progress.
Present compliance insights and recommendations to senior management.
Desired Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of Labour Laws and Gig Workforce Regulations.
Understanding of Code on Social Security 2020 and related compliance requirements.

Communication: Clear verbal and written skills to explain complex legal rules to non-legal team
Qualification
MBA HR / MSW / Labour Welfare / LLB preferred.
Certification in Labour Laws, Compliance, Audit, or Risk Management is desirable.
Experience:-
10 to 14 years of experience in HR Compliance, Labour Compliance, Industrial Relations, Vendor Compliance, or Workforce Governance with Human Resources experience.
Experience handling gig workforce, contingent workforce, staffing partners, aggregator platforms, or contract workforce compliance is preferred.
Exposure to audits, investigations, labour authorities, and statutory compliance management.
Effective risk mitigation and stakeholder satisfaction.
