The Stock & Options sub-team sits within Comp & Ben Finance group in Corporate and is responsible for firmwide equity compensation expense and centrally managed variable compensation line at this scale across the firm.
You will analyze, prepare, and reconcile accounting and technical data as well as prepare reports, while always thinking of and devising ways to streamline and minimize cycle times through automated applications and process improvement. You will also help develop recommendations effecting business procedures and operations and maintain financial and reporting systems. In addition, you will assist the department and other team members with special projects or components of other projects as needed. The figures and narratives produced by this team are consumed by central P&A teams across CCB, CIB, and AWM who present directly to LOB CEOs, CFOs, and the firmwide CFO organization. The firm's equity compensation data infrastructure — combination of 3rd party vendors, internally developed applications, and customized connections — is in early stages of modernization. The team leverages process automation to minimize manual intervention and address nuances. you will be directly engaged in modernization initiatives alongside day-to-day delivery.
Job responsibilities
P&A work experience within JPM (e.g., Budget, Outlook, month-end, corporate hierarchy, Essbase/Databricks/Anaplan-Atoti)
Ability to decompose variance drivers across overlapping time periods using multiple large/firmwide data sets
Composure and credibility when interfacing with firmwide central P&A teams who report directly to LOB CFOs and the firmwide CFO organization
Self-directed problem-solving and willingness to conduct deep dives and troubleshoot data issues independently before escalating
High drive, flexibility, and willingness to invest in a ~ 9 month learning curve to reach independent proficiency on this product line
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a subject of a technical nature
3+ years of work experience, preferably in Financial Services, and/or accounting/controller background
Accounting background — the candidate will be working with complex accrual or amortization models and benefits from foundational fluency in these concepts
Process automation and/or design requirement documentation experience (e.g. building, maintaining, or enhancing complex workflows using Sigma/Alteryx-type technologies)
Familiarity with stress testing or CCAR processes, even in a different product area
Advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint
Proficiency with data mining/gathering and manipulation of data sets
Inquisitive, enthusiastic and diligent, and capable of challenging peers
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly
Ability to create ad hoc reporting for senior management
Proven track record for executing on special projects / assignments, often with little lead time or information
Highly motivated and able to thrive and think clearly under pressure and tight deadlines
Team player with the ability to be respected as a trusted partner for the Business, Finance, and FP&A Teams
Highly motivated self-starter with excellent time management/prioritization skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills with ability to analyze large data sets and present conclusions concisely
