Position Purpose
The role involves conducting scientific experiments, developing and optimizing chemical processes through laboratory research, and supporting process development initiatives. Responsibilities include literature surveys, identifying synthetic procedures, analyzing experimental data, preparing technical documentation and review presentations, and contributing to SOP adherence and lab upkeep. The position also supports client-related activities and day-to-day technical operations to drive impactful outcomes for the organization’s research goals.
Strategic Responsibilities
Actively imbibing the values and philosophy of PI Health Sciences.
Contributing effectively to the overall success of Process Chemistry by driving research and team performance in line with the objectives and targets set by the Director and Head of Chemistry.
Fulfilling requirements as defined by the Group Leader and Team Leader, e.g., within specific research projects.
Safeguarding intellectual property for PIHS
Continuously updating oneself on chemistry knowledge through literature, lectures, seminars and conferences to strengthen research outcomes.
Supporting the Team Leader, with a special focus on target setting, and consistently seeking functional feedback.
Operational Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the team to achieve and exceed targets within the framework set by the Group Leader and Team Leader – Process Research.
Stay updated on the latest developments in synthetic chemistry and process innovation, with a specific focus on innovative process research.
Maintain continuous documentation and reporting of all research results within the defined area of responsibility, as per SOPs and guidelines.
Actively seek functional support from the Team Leader when needed.
Conduct literature searches using available tools (Reaxys, SciFinder, etc.).
Perform synthetic experiments safely and efficiently, ensuring accurate and complete recording of all procedures and data.
Provide regular updates to the Team Leader regarding the functional progress and any issues related to the project.
Participate constructively and actively in all technical and functional meetings of the team.
Analyze and interpret experimental data effectively.
Stay well-versed in reaction mechanisms and their applications.
Contribute to impurity profiling through evaluation, synthesis, characterization, and control.
Demonstrate strong understanding of process development and the ability to design safe, robust, and scalable processes based on green chemistry principles.
Utilize ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook) for documentation and data capture.
Travel to plant sites for batch execution and scale-up activities, as required.
Coordinate closely with cross-functional teams such as ARD, QA, Safety, and Process Technology.
Follow ESG policies and ensure compliance in daily operations.
Financial Responsibilities
Work towards achieving the targeted RMC (Raw Material Cost) by optimizing the use of available resources.
People Responsibilities
Support Team members by providing peer feedback Foster an environment of knowledge sharing within the Team Additional Accountabilities:

Education Qualification
Ph.D./M.Sc./ M. Pharmacy in Organic Chemistry / Analytical Chemistry from a reputed University / Institute
Work Experience
E2-E4: 2-8 years of experience in Process R&D in CDMO domain
E1: Fresher from reputed institute/university
Industry to be Hired from
Preferably Biotechnology /Pharmaceutical/ CRO/ CDMO
Functional Competencies
Chemistry Understanding and knowledge: Detailed Knowledge of reactions and interactions of various functional groups, understanding of functional group interference in chemical transformations and compatibility of reagents with various functional groups, Ability to understand of reaction mechanisms to predict the reaction progress and side reactions
Process chemistry and Regulatory: Awareness of solvents/ reagents that can be utilized in plant, understanding of process optimization principles and GLP, understanding of CMAs, CPPs and CQAs
Presentation and documentation: Ability to compile the data for the project by discussing with different scientists involved in the project, preparation of the PPTs with clear objective, project related data, and conclusions
Software and Application: Ability to use Microsoft office and ELN independently, Ability to use Reaxys/ Scifinder in order to find reagents/ conditions for performing reactions in the lab, Ability to use Chemdraw to prepare the documents
Process Optimization & Scale-Up: Ability to Independently optimize reaction parameters to improve yield, selectivity, and cost-effectiveness, ability to support scale-up trials.
Cross-Functional & Client Collaboration: Fosters coordination with cross-functional teams to enable smooth lab-to-plant transfer, shares accurate data for collaborative decisions.
