Product Engineering Manager

Epsion Staffing Solutions (A Division of Proxima) has been mandated by a 45+ year-old listed Indian engineering company serving the Defence & Aerospace sector to identify an accomplished Manager – Product Engineering.
The company is strengthening its indigenous Design, Engineering and Manufacturing capabilities as it scales its Defence & Aerospace business. This position will play a critical role in converting validated mechanical designs into standardised, digitally defined and production-ready products that can be manufactured repeatedly with high quality and minimal ambiguity.
The Opportunity
The Manager – Product Engineering will own the industrialisation and digital product definition of the company's Tactical Infrastructure products, including Telescopic Masts, Tripods, Pan-Tilt Systems and related electro-mechanical assemblies.
The role operates at the intersection of Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, PDM/PLM and Digital Manufacturing.
The incumbent will ensure that validated engineering designs are converted into accurate BOMs, stage-wise production definitions, assembly and inspection requirements, controlled technical documentation and structured engineering data suitable for downstream automation.
Key Responsibilities
Product Industrialisation & Digital Product Definition
Convert validated mechanical designs into complete production-ready product definitions.
Establish structured 3D product definitions covering GD&T, materials, coatings, finishes, fits, tolerances, CTQs and assembly requirements.
Develop and maintain Engineering BOMs, Manufacturing BOMs and stage-wise BOM structures.
Define child assemblies, sub-assemblies, manufacturing stages, assembly sequences and inspection stages.
Assembly Engineering & Manufacturing Documentation
Develop assembly drawings, exploded views and step-by-step assembly instructions.
Define requirements covering torque, threadlocking, lubrication, fasteners, bearings, press-fits, sealing and functional checks.
Ensure Production can manufacture and assemble products without dependence on undocumented knowledge.
Product Standardisation & Modularity
Standardise products into reusable product families, modules, components and sub-assemblies.
Improve BOM commonality and reduce unnecessary part proliferation.
Develop SolidWorks Design Tables, configurations, parametric templates and reusable libraries.
Prepare product families for future rule-based configuration and automation.
CAD, PDM & Engineering Systems Governance
Establish CAD modelling, drawing, metadata, revision and release standards.
Drive disciplined use of SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, Design Checker, Composer and MBD.
Develop PDM workflows ensuring engineering completeness, traceability and controlled release.
DFM, Manufacturing & Quality Interface
Own DFM, DFA, Design for Reliability and Design for Serviceability gates from an industrialisation perspective.
Translate engineering CTQs into stage-wise inspection and control-plan requirements.
Work closely with Production and Quality to ensure products are manufacturable, assemblable, inspectable, traceable and serviceable.
Digital Manufacturing & Technical Documentation
Drive integration of Engineering data with ERP, MES, Quality and digital manufacturing systems.

Qualification & Experience
B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production or Manufacturing Engineering.
Typically 8-12 years of relevant experience in mechanical product development and industrialization.
Strong hands-on experience with CAD-driven product definition and release to manufacturing.
Experience in Defence, Aerospace, industrial equipment, precision machinery or rugged electro-mechanical products preferred.
Exposure to manufacturing, quality and product lifecycle processes is mandatory.
