About the Role
BWS is looking for a Technical Lead – Manufacturing Digital Solutions who can take ownership of the technical delivery of digital solutions for manufacturing customers.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will lead a team of developers, work closely with the Solution Architect, Product, Manufacturing SMEs and Project/Delivery teams, and be responsible for converting business and manufacturing requirements into scalable, reliable and production-ready software solutions.
The ideal candidate should be strong in full-stack development, cloud technologies, APIs, data engineering and system integration, with the ability to guide a team while remaining hands-on with development and troubleshooting.
Experience in manufacturing, MES, Industry 4.0, IIoT, factory automation or enterprise digital solutions will be highly valuable.
Key Responsibilities1. Technical Ownership
Own the technical design and delivery of manufacturing digital applications and platforms.
Translate business, manufacturing and functional requirements into technical solutions.
Define application architecture, APIs, data flows, integrations and deployment approach.
Make appropriate technology and design decisions for scalability, performance, security and maintainability.
Participate in technical discussions with customers, architects, product and delivery teams.
2. Hands-on Software Development
Lead and contribute to development using React and Python.
Develop scalable frontend applications, backend services, APIs and integrations.
Review code and actively participate in complex development, debugging and technical problem-solving.
Establish coding standards, development practices and reusable components.
Troubleshoot production issues and provide technical solutions.
3. Manufacturing Digital Solutions
Work with manufacturing SMEs and project teams to build solutions around production, quality, maintenance, supply chain, machine monitoring and factory operations.
Understand manufacturing processes and translate them into effective digital workflows and applications.
Work with MES, ERP, IoT, PLC/SCADA and machine data integrations.
Support development of Industry 4.0, IIoT, analytics and AI-enabled manufacturing solutions.
4. Data & Integration
Design data ingestion, transformation and integration patterns for manufacturing data.
Work with Kafka or equivalent event-streaming technologies for real-time data processing.
Work with databases/data platforms such as Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses.
Ensure data quality, integrity, scalability and performance.
Design and implement REST APIs and system-to-system integrations.
5. Cloud & DevOps
Design and deploy applications on AWS.
Hands-on experience with services such as EKS, ECS, Lambda, EC2, S3, IAM and CloudWatch is preferred.
Work with Docker/containerised applications and CI/CD pipelines.
Collaborate with DevOps teams on deployment, monitoring, security and production support.
Ensure applications are secure, scalable and highly available.
6. Team Leadership
Lead and mentor a team of frontend, backend and data engineers.
Assign technical tasks and provide technical direction to developers.
Conduct code reviews, design reviews and technical knowledge-sharing sessions.
Identify technical risks and remove development blockers.
Build engineering capability within the team.
7. Project & Delivery Support
Work closely with Project Managers and Delivery Leads to ensure successful technical execution.
Break requirements into technical tasks, estimates and deliverables.
Support sprint planning, technical planning and release management.
Ensure development quality, timelines and technical deliverables are achieved.
Participate in customer discussions, demos and technical clarifications when required.
8. Quality & Reliability
Establish automated testing and quality practices.
Ensure performance, security, logging and monitoring are built into solutions.
Review production readiness before releases.
Drive resolution of technical debt and recurring production issues.
What We Are Looking For
9–14 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years in a Technical Lead / Senior Technical Lead role.
Strong hands-on experience in React and Python.
Good understanding of backend development using FastAPI, Flask, Django or equivalent.
Strong experience developing REST APIs, microservices and enterprise applications.
Hands-on experience with AWS cloud.
Practical experience with Kafka or other event-streaming technologies.
Experience with SQL and relational databases.
Experience with Snowflake or other cloud data platforms is preferred.
Good understanding of data pipelines, ETL/ELT and real-time data processing.
Experience with Docker, CI/CD and cloud deployment practices.
Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns and API/integration architecture.
Experience leading and mentoring software development teams.
Strong debugging, problem-solving and technical decision-making skills.
Manufacturing / Industry Experience – Preferred
