Description supplied by the original job listing.

TEXTILE DESIGNER – HOME TEXTILES
Company: Beyond Beleaf / Green Impressions Pvt. Ltd.
Location: Chennai
Employment Type: Full-Time
Experience: 3–7 years
Industry: Premium Home Textiles / Bedding / Bath / Lifestyle
About Beyond Beleaf
Beyond Beleaf is a premium home and lifestyle brand creating thoughtfully designed products across luxury bedding, bath linen and sustainable home textiles.
Our collections work across Egyptian cotton, high thread-count cotton sateen, bamboo, muslin and other premium natural fabrics, combining contemporary design with sophisticated colours, textures, embroidery, quilting and surface detailing.
As we expand our collections and retail presence, we are looking for a talented Textile Designer specialising in Home Textiles who can translate ideas and trends into distinctive, commercially viable products.
Role Overview
We are looking for a designer with a strong aesthetic sense who can participate in the complete journey from concept to finished product.
The role goes beyond creating prints or artwork. The designer will work on colour stories, embroidery, quilting, jacquard, textures, fabric combinations, trims, product detailing and collection development, while coordinating closely with sampling and production teams.
The ideal candidate should understand the difference between creating a beautiful design and creating a beautiful product that can actually be manufactured and sold successfully.
Key Responsibilities1. Collection & Concept Development
Develop seasonal and category-wise concepts for Beyond Beleaf.
Create mood boards, colour stories and collection themes.
Translate global and Indian design trends into commercially relevant collections.
Build coordinated collections rather than designing individual products in isolation.
Maintain a distinctive and consistent Beyond Beleaf design language.
2. Bedding Design
Develop designs for:
Bedsheets
Duvet covers
Duvets and comforters
Pillowcases and shams
Decorative cushions
Throws
Coordinated bedding collections
Work with design techniques including:
Embroidery
Quilting
Jacquard
Pintucks and pleating
Ruffles
Contrast panels and piping
Borders and flange detailing
Texture and surface manipulation
Fabric combinations
3. Bath & Lifestyle Textile Design
Develop coordinated concepts for:
Bath towels
Hand and face towels
Waffle towels
Bathrobes
Kids' bath products
Muslin products
Other textile-based home and lifestyle accessories
Ensure that colour and design stories can extend naturally across bedding and bath wherever appropriate.
4. Colour Development
Develop sophisticated seasonal colour palettes.
Work confidently with Pantone TCX/TPG colour references.
Create commercially balanced palettes covering neutrals, core colours and seasonal accents.
Coordinate colours across different fabrics and product categories.
Review lab dips and production colour submissions against approved standards.
5. Embroidery & Quilting Development
Create original embroidery motifs and placements.
Develop quilting patterns suitable for premium bedding.
Prepare artwork that can be converted into machine embroidery/quilting programmes.
Work with vendors and production teams on stitch density, thread selection, scale and placement.
Review embroidery and quilting strike-offs and recommend corrections.
6. Fabric & Material Understanding
The candidate should have a practical understanding of fabrics commonly used in premium home textiles, including:
Cotton sateen
High thread-count cotton
Egyptian cotton
Bamboo fabrics
Muslin
Jacquard
Waffle structures
Terry fabrics
Textured and layered fabrics
The designer should understand how fabric construction, GSM, drape, shrinkage, finishing and hand feel influence the final design.
7. Sampling & Product Development
Prepare clear design specifications and tech packs for sampling.
Coordinate with sampling, embroidery, quilting, dyeing, stitching and production teams.
Follow samples from initial development through final approval.
Check measurements, placement, colour, trims and workmanship.
Maintain proper records of approved samples and specifications.
Ensure corrections are incorporated before bulk production.
8. Commercial Design Thinking
Every design should be evaluated not only aesthetically but commercially.
The designer should consider:
Target customer
Expected retail price
Fabric and processing cost
Production feasibility
Minimum order quantities
Material utilisation
Colour combinations
Retail presentation
Scalability for bulk production
Designs should be distinctive enough to strengthen the brand but practical enough to manufacture commercially.
9. Trend & Market Research
Track Indian and international home-textile trends.
Study developments in colours, materials, textures and surface techniques.
Regularly review premium home and lifestyle brands.
Visit exhibitions, stores and relevant industry events when required.
Present relevant trends and recommendations to management before collection planning.
10. Design Documentation & Library
Maintain an organised digital and physical design library covering:
Artwork
Colour palettes
Pantone references
Fabric swatches
Embroidery developments
Quilting developments
Lab dips
Approved samples
Tech packs
Vendor developments
Seasonal collections
Software Skills
Strong working knowledge of:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
CorelDRAW or equivalent design software
Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets
Knowledge of textile CAD, embroidery software, CLO 3D or other textile visualisation tools would be an advantage.
AI-assisted design and visualisation skills would be an added advantage, particularly for concept development, colour exploration and presentation.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for someone who:
Has 3–7 years of experience in textile/home textile design.
Has a degree/diploma from NIFT, NID or another recognised textile/design institute, preferably specialising in Textile Design.
Has strong experience in home textiles, preferably bedding.
Has an excellent sense of colour, proportion and detailing.
Understands fabrics and manufacturing processes—not just computer artwork.
Can independently take a design from concept → sampling → correction → production.
Has strong follow-up and coordination skills.
Is comfortable working directly with vendors and production teams.
Can balance creativity with deadlines and commercial requirements.
Pays exceptional attention to detail.
Portfolio Requirement
A portfolio is mandatory.
Shortlisted candidates should be able to demonstrate:
Bedding collections
Embroidery or surface developments
Quilting/jacquard/textural work
Colour palette development
Original textile artwork
Finished products developed from their designs
Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate actual commercially produced work rather than only academic or conceptual designs.
What We Are Looking For
We are not looking for someone whose role stops after making artwork.
We are looking for a Textile Designer who thinks like a product designer—someone who can understand a fabric, imagine what it can become, create a differentiated collection and work with the team until that idea becomes a beautifully finished Beyond Beleaf product.
The successful candidate should bring together:
Creativity + Colour Sense + Textile Knowledge + Commercial Understanding + Execution
What We Offer
Opportunity to design for a growing premium Indian home-textile brand.
Exposure to luxury and sustainable materials including Egyptian cotton, bamboo and muslin.
Opportunity to develop complete collections rather than isolated designs.
Direct involvement from concept through production and retail launch.
Significant creative ownership and interaction with senior management.
Opportunity to see your designs converted into commercially launched products.
Compensation: Competitive and commensurate with experience, portfolio and capability. We offer 20% increment over the current salary
