About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We're hiring a Senior Backend & AI Engineer who combines strong Python backend engineering with deep, hands-on AI expertise. This is not a role for someone adding AI to their resume, it's for someone who's already AI-native: building with LLMs, agents, and modern AI infrastructure as a core part of how they work, and genuinely plugged into the latest developments in the space.
Our backend stack is primarily Python. We strongly prefer candidates with a Computer Science or Computer Engineering background and strong core systems fundamentals. Startup or high-growth company experience is a plus.
What You'll Do
Design, build, and scale backend systems, APIs, services, and integrations in Python
Build production AI features using LLMs, agents, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), vector databases, inference infrastructure, tool calling, and AI automation
Own features end-to-end, from architecture through deployment and iteration
Evaluate and implement emerging AI models, inference platforms, and developer tools
Debug, optimize, and improve system performance, scalability, and reliability
Use AI coding tools extensively to move faster without sacrificing quality
What We're Looking For
4+ years of professional software engineering experience
Strong Python backend engineering skills (APIs, databases, distributed systems, production-scale services)
Real, hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, agents, tool calling, and modern AI infrastructure, not just API integration
Strong Computer Science / Engineering fundamentals: distributed systems, concurrency, networking, performance, or operating systems
C/C++ or other low-level systems experience is a plus
Startup or high-growth environment experience preferred
Strong ownership mindset and ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment
You're a Strong Fit If You
Already follow developments across models, inference platforms, and AI infrastructure (Fireworks AI, Baseten, GLM/Zhipu, and similar) through technical communities, X, GitHub, and research
Have AI-related personal projects, open-source contributions, or a public technical presence
Actively experiment with new models and AI tools as they release
Have strong curiosity about how systems work under the hood
Can evaluate new AI technologies independently, without needing them explained
Work arrangement
