About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead the development of the core platform powering our edge computing infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving difficult systems problems, leading high-performing engineering teams, and remaining technically involved when needed. You'll partner with engineering and product leadership to define long-term platform strategy while helping the team build highly reliable, performance-critical software that runs on resource-constrained edge devices.
Responsibilities:
Drive the long-term technical direction of the platform organisation, aligning engineering investments with product priorities.
Lead the design of scalable distributed software running on edge hardware where latency, memory, and reliability are critical.
Coordinate multiple engineering initiatives simultaneously, balancing roadmap execution with urgent production needs.
Provide technical guidance through architecture discussions, detailed design reviews, and high-quality code reviews.
Act as the technical escalation point for challenging C++ or systems-level issues when deep debugging is required.
Guide the development of communication frameworks, IPC mechanisms, event-driven services, and high-throughput data pipelines.
Improve engineering excellence by establishing best practices around testing, observability, deployment, incident response, and operational reliability.
Recruit exceptional systems engineers while mentoring and growing existing team members.
Build a culture focused on accountability, engineering craftsmanship, continuous improvement, and execution.
Requirements:
Several years of engineering management experience leading teams building infrastructure, systems software, or distributed platforms.
Strong foundation in Computer Science including operating systems, networking, concurrency, algorithms, and data structures.
Demonstrated experience building or leading software for real-time, low-latency, or performance-sensitive distributed systems.
Comfortable reviewing, debugging, and contributing production-quality C++ code when required.
Experience working close to embedded software, firmware, or hardware-aware applications.
Excellent architectural skills with the ability to evaluate complex technical trade-offs.
Proven ability to deliver production software while maintaining long-term platform quality and scalability.
Strong communication and leadership skills with experience influencing engineers, product managers, and leadership.
Nice to Have:
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be valuable:
Rust development.
Linux internals, kernel optimisation, or real-time Linux.
High-performance messaging frameworks or publish-subscribe architectures.
Software running on constrained edge devices.
GPU-enabled edge computing platforms.
Distributed streaming or telemetry systems.
Performance profiling and memory optimisation.
Modern observability platforms and production diagnostics.
