Software Engineer II

As a Product Development Engineer, you will design and build systems that power Disney's global advertising platforms. This is a hands-on distributed systems role where you will develop high-scale backend and frontend services, improve system performance and reliability, contribute to architectural decisions across services, and build platforms used across multiple Disney products. You will collaborate with engineering teams across the US and India to design systems that support large-scale traffic, strict reliability requirements, and evolving product needs.
Responsibilities:
Design and implement scalable backend services powering Disney's advertising platforms.
Develop and maintain modern web applications for advertisers and internal teams.
Participate actively in daily stand-ups and Agile ceremonies.
Collaborate with team members to design new solutions and drive alignment across partner teams.
Participate in task breakdown, estimation, and planning activities.
Communicate progress and technical updates effectively.
Write high-quality code to implement new features and optimize existing services.
Ensure code quality through testing, CI/CD pipelines, and code reviews.
Participate in on-call rotation and production support.
Follow engineering best practices for CI/CD, monitoring, and incident management.
Perform code reviews and contribute to engineering excellence.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
2+ years of professional software engineering experience building scalable distributed systems.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong hands-on proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, JavaScript, or Python.
Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
Experience designing API-driven architectures and integrating model-serving or external services across cloud environments.
Strong engineering fundamentals including testing, CI/CD, and maintainable code practices.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building or operating large-scale distributed systems.
Experience with Spring Boot or similar backend frameworks.
Experience with ReactJS or similar frontend frameworks.
Experience with streaming or event-driven systems such as Kafka or Kinesis.
Familiarity with containerized infrastructure, including Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform.
Exposure to high-throughput or low-latency systems.
