About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
We are hiring the first Quality Engineer at Docupilot. We are looking for a hands-on software quality engineer to strengthen quality across the product lifecycle. You will work closely with Product and Engineering, from design and requirements through development, release, and production verification.
This role combines thoughtful exploratory testing, risk-based test planning, release readiness, and practical automation. You should care about customer experience as much as technical correctness and know how to improve quality without slowing delivery.
Responsibilities:
Create risk-based test plans. Turn product requirements into clear scenarios that prioritize functional behavior, regressions, and customer-critical workflows.
Test across the product. Validate web experiences, APIs, integrations, and generated PDF, DOCX, and other types of documents across review deployments, staging, and production.
Build useful automation. Build and maintain Playwright tests for high-value user journeys, smoke coverage, integrations, visual regressions, and document-generation regressions.
Improve the experience early. Participate in design and requirement discussions and raise usability, accessibility, cross-device, and first-time-user concerns.
Support confident releases. Maintain regression coverage and release checklists, verify release readiness, and run focused post-release smoke checks.
Make issues actionable. Write clear bug reports, investigate browser and API behavior, and help turn recurring failures into stronger processes or coverage.
Requirements:
4+ years of experience in software quality, including meaningful hands-on automation work.
Ability to read, write, debug, and maintain Playwright tests in JavaScript.
Strong experience testing web applications and APIs using tools such as Postman, Chrome DevTools, and Git.
Working knowledge of document-generation systems, APIs, PDFs, DOCX formatting, and HTML/CSS rendering.
Experience creating test strategies, maintaining regression suites, and supporting release decisions.
A customer-first mindset, strong communication, fast learning, self-direction, and the confidence to challenge ideas respectfully.
Good judgement about when to explore manually, when to automate, and how to prioritize risk.
Nice to have:
Experience working in a startup/product team.
Experience with enterprise SaaS or international customers.
Exposure to visual, accessibility, performance, load, or security testing.
Experience with eSignatures, third-party integrations, or mobile applications.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (such as GitHub Actions) and integrating automated tests into deployment workflows.
