What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is highly organized, commercially aware, and comfortable working with detailed construction information. You should be able to independently review drawings, complete quantity take-offs, communicate with subcontractors and suppliers, and contribute to accurate and competitive bid submissions.
This position would suit an estimator looking to strengthen their technical estimating experience while working closely with experienced construction and project management professionals.
This is an excellent opportunity for an estimator who has hands-on experience with quantity take-offs, cost estimating, tender preparation, subcontractor pricing, and construction documentation and is looking to further develop their skills in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
You will work closely with the Chief Estimator and Project Management team to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for residential and commercial construction projects. The role will involve reviewing drawings and specifications, preparing quantity take-offs, obtaining subcontractor and supplier pricing, supporting bid submissions, and identifying suitable public tender opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for residential and commercial construction projects.
Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and other project information to understand project scope and requirements.
Perform detailed quantity take-offs and calculate pricing for materials, labour, equipment, and multiple construction trades.
Collect, organize, review, and compare quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and project stakeholders to clarify scope and obtain competitive pricing.
Prepare and support complete bid and tender submissions for public and private projects.
Search, navigate, and identify relevant public tender opportunities through online tender platforms.
Support project managers with budgets, preliminary cost planning, and project schedules.
Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, subcontractor records, and current pricing data.
Assist with administrative requirements associated with bid preparation and submission deadlines.
Ensure estimates accurately reflect project requirements, scope, and available construction documentation.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients.
Manage multiple estimating assignments while meeting tight submission deadlines.
Required Skills & Experience
3–5 years of construction estimating or related construction experience.
Previous experience within commercial construction is highly preferred.
Strong experience performing quantity take-offs, budgeting, and construction cost analysis across multiple trades.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and tender documentation.
Good understanding of construction methods, materials, and general building requirements.
Experience preparing estimates covering materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Hands-on experience coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants during pre-construction.
Experience obtaining, reviewing, and comparing subcontractor and vendor quotations.
Experience preparing tender packages for both public and private construction projects.
Experience working with public tender platforms such as MERX, Biddingo, Ontario Tenders Portal, or similar platforms.
Working knowledge of estimating and take-off software such as Bluebeam and/or Procore.
Strong spreadsheet and numerical skills.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Proactive, self-motivated approach to work.
Nice to Have
Postsecondary degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
Gold Seal Certification in Estimating (CCA) or currently working toward certification.
Professional designation such as PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor) or CEC (Certified Estimating Professional).
Previous estimating experience supporting large-scale commercial or residential construction projects.
