About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Job Description — CAD Engineer (Robotics & Humanoid Design)
Full-Time | OMOTEC — Mumbai, Delhi
WHAT WE DO
OMOTEC runs competitive robotics programs for students aged 6–18 across WRO, VEX, and FTC. Every FTC season brings a new game — a new robot to design from scratch under real engineering constraints. Alongside our competition programs, we're also building out humanoid robotics design work. Our coaches and engineers aren't people who just follow a manual — they're the reason a robot's design actually holds up under competition and real-world conditions.
WHAT THIS ROLE ACTUALLY IS
This is a hands-on CAD engineering role with a coaching component attached. You'll be designing robots — primarily for FTC competition, and also contributing to humanoid robot CAD work. This isn't drafting for the sake of drafting; every design decision has to survive fabrication, assembly, and actual competitive use.
On the FTC side, you'll be designing full robot assemblies — drivetrains, mechanisms, linkages, custom fabricated parts — built to survive the demands of competition while staying within game rules and size constraints. On the humanoid side, you'll be working on structural and mechanical design for more complex robotic systems — joints, actuator mounts, load paths, and articulation.
You'll also coach — working directly with student teams during FTC build season, reviewing their CAD work, correcting design flaws before they become expensive fabrication mistakes, and teaching them to think like mechanical engineers rather than just kit-assemblers. Expect a mix of independent design work and hands-on student mentorship.
YOU SHOULD APPLY IF:
You have strong, hands-on experience in Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or Onshape — parametric modeling, complex assemblies, joints/mates, motion studies
You understand mechanical design fundamentals: gear trains, linkages, tolerancing, structural loading, and design-for-fabrication (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC)
You have some exposure to or strong interest in humanoid or articulated robot design — joints, degrees of freedom, actuator integration, structural framing
You've either competed in or worked closely with FTC (or comparable robotics competitions) and understand what a competition-legal, build-ready design actually requires
You're comfortable explaining and defending your design decisions — both to a fabrication team and to a 15-year-old student who needs to understand why
You enjoy switching between focused independent design work and teaching/coaching mode
YOU SHOULD PROBABLY NOT APPLY IF:
Your CAD work has been mostly academic or self-taught, without production, competition, or fabrication rigor
You're not interested in the coaching/mentorship side of the role — this isn't a design-only desk job
You see CAD as just drawing shapes rather than solving real mechanical problems
Focus areas: FTC robot design & CAD coaching, humanoid robot CAD (structural & mechanical)
Platforms you'll work with: Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape
Qualifications: Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Product Design, or related background preferred. What matters most is demonstrated CAD depth and real design-build experience — degree is secondary to shown skill.
Prior experience in FTC robot design, competitive robotics CAD, or humanoid/articulated robot design will be given strong preference.
Location: OMOTEC — Mumbai, Delhi
