Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Design Engineer role based in Bengaluru. The Mechanical Design Engineer will design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for electric wheelchairs, hospital beds, and mobility scooters, from concept through to production. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and updating CAD models and drawings, performing basic engineering calculations, collaborating with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, quality), and supporting prototyping and testing activities. The role involves refining designs for manufacturability, durability, safety, and user comfort, as well as troubleshooting design issues and implementing improvements based on test results and customer feedback. The engineer will document design changes, maintain design standards, and support continuous enhancement of Ostrich’s product portfolio.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering with applied experience in Design Engineering and Machine Design.
Proficiency in Product Design, including concept development, design for manufacturability, and design for user ergonomics.
Hands-on skills in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, CREO, or similar) for 3D modeling and engineering drawings.
Ability to apply engineering principles to mobility or medical devices, including materials selection, mechanisms, and structural integrity.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; relevant industry experience in product development is an advantage.
Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and capability to work collaboratively on-site with multidisciplinary teams.
Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation processes; familiarity with safety and quality standards for medical or assistive devices is beneficial.
Effective communication skills and a commitment to creating reliable, user-centered solutions for people with disabilities.
