Role Description The First Engineer is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems on board the vessel. This full-time, on-site position is based in Pune and involves planning and executing preventive maintenance schedules, diagnosing technical issues, and coordinating repairs to ensure safe and efficient marine operations. The role includes supervising engine room activities, maintaining logs and records, ensuring compliance with maritime and safety standards, and supporting emergency response procedures when required. The First Engineer will work closely with the Captain and other crew members to optimize vessel performance, manage spare parts and inventories, and contribute to continuous improvement in technical operations.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge of marine operations and maritime regulations, with practical experience in vessel engineering or shipboard systems.
Proficiency in preventive maintenance practices, including planning, execution, and documentation of maintenance activities.
Understanding of STCW requirements and ability to work in accordance with international maritime safety and training standards.
Training and competency in firefighting and emergency response procedures relevant to marine environments.
Diploma or degree in Marine Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience in engine room operations, mechanical troubleshooting, and basic electrical systems on marine vessels.
Ability to work in an on-site, shipboard environment, including rotating shifts and variable schedules as required by operations.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary crew members.
Valid maritime certifications and medical fitness suitable for marine service, as required by applicable regulations.
