About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
You'll be working with the engineering team.
This team runs on coffee with an infectious passion for building products that have never been built before. Our Flexible Energy Stack consists of the e^pack (battery pack) and e^pump (charging station) which together unlock 15-minute rapid charging.
Our philosophy: Break. Believe. Build
Break stuff. Break assumptions. Break the thumb rule.
Believe in the team. Believe in the process. Believe through failures.
Build fast. Build passionately. Build to simplify.
Role Description
We are looking for a GET in the Mechanical Engineering function to aid in the design and development of mechanical systems across our Flexible Energy Stack — the e^pump (charging station) and e^pack (battery pack). You will contribute to designs spanning structures, enclosures, thermal systems, and electro-mechanical packaging, taking them from concept through validation to production.
What you will do:
Support the design and development of mechanical systems and components across the e^pump and e^pack
Work on structures, enclosures, thermal systems, and electro-mechanical packaging while balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, and serviceability
Contribute to taking mechanical designs from concept through prototyping, validation, and production stabilisation
Responsibilities:
Designing mechanical systems and components — including sheet metal, plastics, machined parts, and assemblies — for weight, volume, thermal performance, and IP sealing, while ensuring serviceability and manufacturability (DFM/DFA)
Developing and executing test plans to validate components, subsystems, and full product performance
Participating in root cause analyses (RCAs) for issues identified during testing and field deployment, and contributing to their closure through robust design changes
Documenting the product development cycle from concept to production stabilisation, including FMEA, DFX, DVP, inspection plans, and other relevant engineering documentation
The ideal candidate requires:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (or higher)
0-2 years of relevant experience; fresh graduates are encouraged to apply
Experience or exposure to the EV domain is a bonus, but not mandatory
Robust fundamentals in mechanical engineering, including structural design, thermal systems, and electro-mechanical packaging
Good knowledge of materials such as metals, plastics, composites, and elastomers, and their appropriate applications
Basic understanding of fluid systems, heat transfer (conductive and convective), and refrigeration fundamentals
Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly and an ability to optimise packaging for cost, performance, and manufacturability
Excellent CAD skills; SolidWorks experience is preferred
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to learn and work on real-world engineering challenges
What matters:
Quality of work
Approach towards problem-solving
Dissatisfaction towards mediocre work
Resilient attitude to bounce back after failing
About Us
Exponent simplifies energy for EVs.
Co-founded by Arun Vinayak (Ather Energy's Founding Partner & Former Chief Product Officer) and Sanjay Byalal (Former hardware strategic sourcing and cell strategy lead, Ather and Former Supply Chain Lead, HUL), Exponent focuses on solving two sides of the energy problem by building the e^pump (charging station) and e^pack (battery pack) which together unlock 15-min rapid charging.
The 200+ strong team of passionate builders have a ton of EV experience and are currently looking for more builders to join one of the best EV teams in India to build & scale Exponent
