About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

We are looking for an AVP – Operations who will be responsible for driving day-to-day fleet operations excellence, leading business expansion into new cities/institutions, and building scalable systems for route and cost optimisation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on operator with a strategic mindset — someone who can run large-scale fleet operations, personally manage a distributed driver workforce, and actively contribute to the company's growth roadmap.
Strategic Mandate
 Manage end-to-end fleet operations for school transportation contracts, including direct management of drivers and ground staff across cities.
 Drive route and cost optimisation initiatives using data and technology tools to improve unit economics.
 Partner with the leadership team to identify, evaluate and execute new city/market expansion opportunities.
 Build and institutionalise systems, MIS and dashboards for real-time operational visibility.
 Ensure full regulatory and safety compliance across the fleet and driver ecosystem.
Key Accountabilities
Fleet & Operations Management  Manage end-to-end fleet operations for school transportation contracts — vehicle deployment, driver management, compliance, and safety standards.  Build and monitor SOPs for daily fleet operations, ensuring on-time performance, vehicle uptime, and service reliability.  Drive route optimisation initiatives to reduce transit time, fuel consumption, and vehicle idle time using data and technology tools.  Implement cost optimisation frameworks across fuel, maintenance, manpower, and vendor management to improve unit economics.  Ensure regulatory compliance (RTO norms, school transport safety guidelines, insurance, driver documentation, etc.).
Business Expansion  Partner with the leadership team to identify and evaluate new city/market opportunities for expansion.  Lead onboarding of new school clients — from operational feasibility assessment to fleet rollout.  Build relationships with schools, vendors, and local transport partners to support scale-up.  Support development of pricing models, proposals, and contracts for new business.  Track expansion KPIs and provide regular business reviews to leadership.
Driver, Team & Vendor Management  Directly manage the driver workforce across all operating cities — recruitment inputs, deployment, discipline, performance and retention.  Build, mentor, and manage regional operations teams (city ops managers, drivers, dispatch staff).  Manage third-party vendors including vehicle owners/aggregators, maintenance partners, and technology providers.  Institute performance management systems and training programs for drivers and ground staff.
Systems, Data & Reporting  Leverage fleet management software/GPS tracking tools for real-time visibility into operations.  Set up dashboards and MIS for tracking fleet utilisation, cost per km, on-time delivery, and safety incidents.  Present operational and expansion performance data to the leadership team. Performance Scorecard Final targets and weightings should be agreed with the leadership team. The measures below define the expected level of accountability for this role.
Preferred Candidate
 Ex-servicemen / Ex-Army officers strongly preferred, given the discipline, ground-level leadership, and large-team (including driver) management experience the role demands.
 Prior experience managing uniformed or field-deployed personnel (transport, logistics, or security operations) will be a strong advantage.
