Position Overview
The Assistant Controller, Aggregates is responsible for supporting the financial management, accounting operations, internal controls, and business performance of the Aggregates group. This position partners closely with the Aggregates Controller, operational leaders, finance teams, and other business partners to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, strong financial controls, and actionable analysis that supports business decisions.
The Assistant Controller provides hands-on leadership for month-end close, general accounting, inventory and cost accounting, financial planning and analysis, audit support, and process improvement. The role also supports the development of accounting team members and helps ensure consistent execution of finance processes across aggregates locations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Close Management
Support the Aggregates Controller in overseeing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close activities.
Ensure financial results are complete, accurate, appropriately supported, and reported within established timelines.
Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, allocations, reserves, and general ledger activity.
Analyze financial statements and operating results to identify unusual trends, variances, risks, and opportunities.
Coordinate with Record to Report and shared-service teams to resolve accounting issues and support timely completion of close activities.
Ensure accounting transactions are recorded in accordance with company policies, applicable accounting standards, and established controls.
Prepare and review recurring and ad hoc financial reports for finance and operational leadership.
Assist with the preparation of management reporting packages and clearly communicate significant financial results and business drivers.
Aggregates Accounting and Operational Support
Provide financial oversight and accounting support for aggregates operations, including quarries, plants, reserves, inventory, production, sales, and distribution activities.
Partner with operational leadership to understand production volumes, sales activity, pricing, product mix, inventory movement, and operating costs.
Oversee inventory accounting and related controls, including physical inventory processes, product costing, adjustments, and reconciliation of inventory records.
Review operating costs and performance indicators related to labor, equipment, maintenance, energy, outside services, transportation, and other significant cost categories.
Support accounting for fixed assets, capital expenditures, depreciation, asset transfers, retirements, and construction-in-progress activity.
Assist with financial evaluations of capital projects and monitor actual spending against approved capital plans.
Support accounting and analysis associated with acquisitions, integrations, reorganizations, and other business changes affecting the Aggregates group.
Help translate operational activity into meaningful financial insights that support improved performance and profitability.
Internal Controls, Compliance, and Audit Support
Maintain a strong internal control environment across Aggregates accounting processes.
