Role Description This remote Software Engineer Internship offers hands-on experience contributing to Furtual’s pet-focused technology products. Interns collaborate with engineers to design, develop, test, and maintain software features, primarily for back-end web services and APIs. Day-to-day responsibilities may include writing clean and efficient code, debugging and resolving issues, participating in code reviews, and assisting with documentation. Interns also work with the team to explore new technical approaches that can improve performance, reliability, and the user experience for pet owners. This is an internship role with structured mentorship and opportunities to learn modern engineering practices in a supportive environment.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in Computer Science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
Skills in Software Development and Programming, with experience in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, or similar).
Knowledge of Back-End Web Development, including building and consuming APIs, working with databases, and understanding server-side frameworks.
Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and ability to apply OOP principles to design modular, maintainable code.
Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
Ability to work independently in a remote setting, communicate clearly, and collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
Interest in pets, animal welfare, and building technology that improves pet–owner experiences.
Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and basic software development workflows is beneficial.
