Position Overview
We are looking for a designer with a strong understanding of spatial design, materials and signage systems to work closely with our design and communications team. The role will involve conceptualising, designing and coordinating the execution of internal and external signage, event environments, partner branding and institutional spaces.
The person should be able to think beyond two-dimensional graphic design and understand how design functions within a physical space.
Key Responsibilities
Work with the design team to conceptualise and develop internal and external signage systems.
Design signage and environmental graphics for:
Events and conferences
Partner organisations and institutions
Offices and internal spaces
Campuses and public spaces
Wayfinding and directional systems
Temporary and permanent installations
Translate brand guidelines into physical and spatial environments.
Develop concepts, layouts, mock-ups and technical drawings for signage and installations.
Understand how people move through and experience a space, and use this understanding to develop effective wayfinding systems.
Recommend appropriate materials, finishes, fabrication techniques and installation methods.
Work closely with vendors, fabricators and production teams to ensure that designs are executed accurately.
Conduct site visits where required to understand dimensions, lighting, visibility and spatial constraints.
Review prototypes, samples and production mock-ups.
Ensure consistency between the design intent and final on-ground execution.
Work collaboratively with graphic designers, architects, project teams and external partners.
Required Skills and Experience
Background in Graphic Design, Environmental Graphic Design, Spatial Design, Exhibition Design, Interior Design or a related discipline.
Strong understanding of signage and wayfinding principles.
Good knowledge of materials such as:
Acrylic
Metal
Wood
Vinyl
Glass
Fabric
LED and illuminated signage
Print and fabrication materials
Understanding of scale, proportion, visibility and spatial context.
Ability to read or interpret architectural drawings and site plans would be an advantage.
Experience working with fabricators and production vendors.
Strong visualisation and problem-solving skills.
Ability to balance aesthetic considerations with practical requirements, including durability, maintenance and budget.
Software Skills
The candidate should ideally be proficient in:
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe InDesign
Knowledge of any of the following would be an advantage:
SketchUp
AutoCAD
Figma or other visualisation tools
3D rendering software
