About the Role
Chandigarh University is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and academically accomplished Professor & Head of Department (HoD) – Management to provide academic leadership and strategic direction to the Management Department under the University School of Business (USB). The incumbent will be responsible for leading academic operations, faculty development, research and publications, industry engagement, student development, accreditation activities, and overall departmental growth.
Responsibilities:
Academic Leadership
Provide strategic leadership and direction to the Management Department.
Develop and implement academic plans in alignment with university objectives.
Ensure effective delivery of curriculum, teaching, assessments, and academic activities.
Review and enhance curriculum based on industry requirements and emerging management trends.
Monitor academic performance and maintain high standards of teaching and learning.
Faculty Management & Development
Lead, mentor, and evaluate faculty members within the department.
Plan faculty workload, teaching schedules, and academic responsibilities.
Identify faculty development requirements and facilitate FDPs, workshops, seminars, and training programs.
Support faculty members in achieving academic and research goals.
Participate in faculty recruitment and selection processes.
Research & Publications
Promote a strong research culture within the department.
Encourage and guide faculty members in publishing research papers in reputed journals.
Support research projects, consultancy, funded projects, and collaborative research.
Encourage participation in national and international conferences.
Develop academic and research collaborations with reputed institutions and organizations.
Student Development
Ensure effective academic mentoring and student support.
Promote experiential learning, case studies, industry projects, internships, and live projects.
Encourage student participation in competitions, conferences, seminars, and professional activities.
Monitor student academic performance and progression.
Strengthen placement and career-development initiatives in coordination with relevant university teams.
Industry & Corporate Engagement
Establish and maintain strong relationships with industry professionals and organizations.
Facilitate guest lectures, industry visits, corporate interactions, workshops, and executive education programs.
Develop opportunities for industry-sponsored projects, consultancy, internships, and placements.
Ensure the Management curriculum remains aligned with current industry requirements.
Accreditation & Quality Assurance
Lead departmental activities related to accreditation, rankings, audits, and quality assurance.
Maintain academic documentation, reports, and departmental records.
Ensure compliance with applicable university, UGC, AICTE, and other regulatory requirements.
Contribute to institutional ranking and quality-enhancement initiatives.
Departmental Administration
Prepare and monitor departmental plans, budgets, and resource requirements.
Coordinate with university leadership and other departments for smooth academic operations.
Conduct departmental meetings and review academic and administrative performance.
Manage departmental infrastructure, resources, and operational requirements.
Prepare periodic reports on departmental performance and achievements.
Qualifications
PhD in Management / Business Administration / Commerce or a relevant discipline from a recognized university.
Master's degree in Management/Business Administration or a relevant discipline with a strong academic record.
Should meet the applicable UGC/University norms for the position of Professor.
Required Skills
15+ years of relevant academic/teaching experience in higher education, preferably with experience at the Professor/Associate Professor level.
Proven experience in academic leadership and departmental administration.
Experience as HoD, Program Director, or equivalent academic leadership position will be preferred.
Strong research profile with publications in reputed/UGC-recognized journals.
Experience in academic accreditation, rankings, research projects, consultancy, and industry collaboration will be an advantage.
