Head of Engineering, Sales & Marketing Tools

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Engineering, Sales & Marketing Tools based in India.
This is a senior engineering leadership role with ownership of a mission-critical platform powering a large, distributed commercial organization. You’ll lead the modernization and scaling of complex systems used by tens of thousands of field sales professionals and millions of users. The role combines platform engineering, distributed systems, legacy re-architecture, financial correctness, and organizational leadership. You’ll guide a large engineering organization through multiple layers of leadership while remaining deeply connected to technical strategy and execution. You’ll have significant autonomy to improve reliability, scalability, and engineering effectiveness across a rapidly growing platform. Accountabilities
Own the engineering strategy, architecture, reliability, and evolution of a large-scale sales and marketing technology platform.
Lead the modernization and re-architecture of legacy systems, delivering measurable improvements in scalability, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Oversee platforms supporting sales operations, onboarding, network management, pipeline and portfolio management, performance, goals, compensation, rewards, and sales support.
Ensure financial workflows—including wallets, commissions, attribution, payouts, cashouts, and related funds—operate with a high degree of accuracy, reliability, and timeliness.
Lead engineering for systems operating at significant scale, supporting tens of millions of users and a large distributed field network.
Develop and execute a long-term platform engineering strategy across complex, high-throughput, data-intensive distributed systems.
Manage and develop a large engineering organization through experienced engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
Build a strong leadership bench while coaching managers and senior engineers to raise technical and organizational standards.
Partner closely with product, commercial, and business stakeholders to ensure engineering priorities support customer and business outcomes.
Drive engineering excellence through strong technical practices, systemisation, clear decision-making, and disciplined execution.
Support the evolution of customer engagement and marketing technology, including platforms such as Braze.
Establish a culture centered on customer obsession, ownership, craft, urgency, candour, integrity, collaboration, and low ego.
Ensure engineering teams can move quickly while maintaining appropriate standards for reliability, security, scalability, and financial correctness.
Contribute to the development of multi-market platforms that can adapt to market-specific requirements such as regulations, payment methods, currencies, languages, and infrastructure.
Requirements
10–15 years of overall software engineering experience, including at least 5 years leading engineering teams through significant growth or transformation.
5+ years of hands-on, production-level Java development experience, with a demonstrated history of personally writing and shipping Java code.
5+ years managing engineering managers, with experience leading an organization through multiple layers of engineering leadership.
Proven experience building and operating complex platforms and distributed systems at scale, beyond feature delivery alone.
Demonstrated experience leading legacy modernization, migration, or re-architecture initiatives for platforms serving 10M+ users.
Strong backend engineering expertise in high-throughput, data-intensive distributed systems.
Advanced proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
Experience managing and developing engineering organizations of 20+ people.
Experience leading multiple engineering functions end-to-end, ideally spanning areas such as backend, frontend, mobile, QA, DevOps/SRE, and data engineering.
Experience working on products or platforms operating across multiple countries and adapting technology to local regulatory, payment, currency, language, or infrastructure requirements.
Experience with systems where financial accuracy is critical, such as commissions, payouts, wallets, ledgers, or comparable financial workflows, is strongly advantageous.
Fintech, payments, or financial services experience is strongly preferred.
Previous CRM or SalesTech experience is welcome but not required.
Exposure to customer engagement or marketing automation platforms such as Braze is a plus.
Strong stakeholder management, communication, strategic thinking, and organizational leadership skills.
Demonstrated customer obsession, ownership, integrity, candour, humility, and ability to make sound decisions without ego.
Ability to balance technical depth with organizational leadership and long-term platform strategy.
