About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer.
In this role, you will:
Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
Define and govern enterprise architecture standards, design principles, and reference architectures across strategic platforms.
Lead the architecture and design of large-scale, distributed, cloud-native, and event-driven systems.
Establish reusable architecture patterns for APIs, microservices, integration, data, security, resiliency, and scalability.
Design future-state technology architectures and drive modernization of legacy platforms and applications.
Lead architecture reviews, technology evaluations, and design governance processes.
Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and operational objectives.
Partner with engineering, product, infrastructure, and cybersecurity teams to translate business strategy into scalable technology solutions.
Define non-functional requirements including performance, availability, observability, disaster recovery, and maintainability.
Drive adoption of cloud, automation, AI/ML, and emerging technology capabilities across the organization.
Mentor architects and senior engineers while providing technical leadership across multiple programs and portfolios.
Job Expectations:
Deep expertise in Enterprise Architecture, Solution Architecture, and Distributed Systems Design.
Strong experience with microservices, event-driven architecture, domain-driven design (DDD), and API-first design patterns.
Expertise in cloud-native architecture across Azure, AWS, or GCP.
Strong understanding of integration patterns, messaging systems, service mesh, and asynchronous processing.
Experience designing highly scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant systems.
Strong knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, streaming platforms, and modern data ecosystems.
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containers, DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, and CI/CD platforms.
Expertise in security architecture, Zero Trust principles, API security, and enterprise security controls.
Strong architecture governance, technology strategy, and roadmap planning experience.
Excellent stakeholder management, executive communication, and technical leadership skills.
Experience creating architecture artifacts using C4 models, UML, ArchiMate, and enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF.
Ability to drive enterprise-wide technology modernization and influence strategic technology decisions across senior leadership teams.
