About the Role
We are looking for a highly detail-oriented Freelance Proofreader to review and polish written content before publication. The ideal candidate should have excellent English grammar, strong attention to detail, and the ability to identify even minor spelling, punctuation, formatting, and consistency issues.The role may involve reviewing articles, website content, marketing copy, documents, reports, and other written materials. These responsibilities align with common proofreading requirements such as grammar, formatting, style consistency, fact-checking, and adherence to editorial guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Proofread written content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
Identify and correct typographical and formatting errors.
Check content for consistency in terminology, tone, style, and formatting.
Review content against provided brand or editorial guidelines.
Fact-check names, dates, statistics, links, and other relevant information where required.
Improve readability while maintaining the original meaning and tone.
Track and clearly communicate corrections and suggested changes.
Work with writers, editors, and content teams to resolve issues.
Complete assignments within agreed timelines.
Maintain confidentiality of client and company content.
Requirements
Excellent command of written English.
1–3+ years of experience in proofreading, editing, content writing, journalism, publishing, or a related field.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Strong knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence construction.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.
Strong research and fact-checking skills.
Good understanding of different writing styles and editorial guidelines.
Comfortable working with Google Docs, Microsoft Word, PDFs, and online editing/proofreading tools.
Ability to meet tight deadlines consistently.
PreferredBachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Literature, or a related field.
Previous freelance proofreading or editing experience.
Experience proofreading digital/online content.
Familiarity with AP, Chicago, MLA, or other style guides.
Experience with AI-generated content or AI content evaluation is a plus.
