About Solena Collective
Solena Collective is a growing global movement where women come together locally to support one another, learn and share skills, and take collective action to advance gender equality in their communities.
Through locally led Solena Circles, women identify the gender equality issues that matter in their own communities and work together to take action. Solena connects these local groups with a global network of women, nonprofit organizations, experts, learning opportunities, resources, and funding to help turn their ideas into action.
We are currently developing our early Circles in Kenya, Colombia, and the United States while building the tools, partnerships, and global infrastructure that will support Solena as it grows.
About the role
We’re looking for a Volunteer Graphic Designer to help strengthen Solena’s visual identity and bring it consistently to life across our communications.
We already have much of our brand identity in place, including an established visual direction, colors, typography, and overall look and feel. We’re looking for someone who can help us refine and codify.
An early part of the role will involve reviewing and making some targeted improvements to our existing branding, including refreshing our logo and helping us tighten up the overall visual system.
From there, the main focus will be creating engaging, on-brand graphics for social media and other communications as Solena grows.
What you’ll work on
Refine our existing brand
Review our current visual identity and identify areas that could be strengthened or made more consistent
Refresh and refine the Solena Collective logo while building on our existing brand direction
Help fine-tune elements such as typography, colors, graphic elements, imagery, and layout where needed
Create or update simple brand guidelines so our team can use the identity consistently
Make sure the visual identity works across different countries, audiences, languages, and formats
Create social media graphics
Design graphics for social media posts, campaigns, announcements, events, stories, and calls to action
Translate content and ideas from the communications team into engaging visual formats
Develop reusable social media templates that make it easier for the team to create consistent content
Help us experiment with different ways of visually telling stories about our Circles, members, activities, and impact
Adapt designs for different platforms and formats when needed
Support wider design needs
From time to time, you may also help create or refine materials such as:
Event graphics
Presentations
Reports and impact materials
Learning resources
Website graphics
Recruitment and volunteer materials
Simple infographics or diagrams
We’d love to hear from you if you
Have graphic design experience and a portfolio or examples of your work
Have a strong eye for layout, typography, color, and visual consistency
Have experience creating graphics for social media and digital communications
Are comfortable working within an existing brand rather than needing to redesign everything
Can take an idea or piece of content and turn it into a clear, engaging visual
Are comfortable using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, or similar
Can create templates that non-designers can easily use
Are comfortable collaborating and incorporating feedback
Can work independently within a remote, international team
Care about gender equality, community-led change, or social impact
Experience with branding or logo design would be particularly useful, but you do not need to be a specialist brand designer.
You do not need previous nonprofit experience.
We welcome designers from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds and particularly value perspectives that can help us create communications that work for a genuinely global audience.
What you’ll get from the role
The opportunity to help shape the visual presence of a growing global movement
Meaningful creative input while working with a semi-established brand foundation
Real-world social media and communications work for your portfolio
Experience working with an international, mission-driven volunteer team
The opportunity to see your work used across Solena’s communities and global communications
A reference or recommendation following successful involvement with the team
Commitment
This is a flexible, remote volunteer role.
We’re looking for someone who can support the initial refinement of our visual identity and then contribute regularly to social media and communications design.
Work can generally be completed around your own schedule, with priorities agreed with the Solena team.
Help us create a strong, recognizable visual presence for a global movement of women taking action for gender equality!
